7/10 a great episode. That's all

Just kidding it was terrific but did leave me with random questions like what ifs?

For example:

Just for the sake of discussion what would happen if Pike had died during the Gorn episodes?

Wouldn't that have messed up his predicted fate? I mean just for the sake of discussion and all.

Bad things, as seen in "A Quality of Mercy"

I think Pike would have to make a conscious effort to make it impossible for the vision he saw to occur, otherwise he's just living out the events that inevitably lead to it. Nothing is going to kill him, because nothing did kill him.

So till that time there's zero danger for him. That's lazy

Pike being invincible due to "fate" in-universe is the part that puts people off, I think, especially since he knows it himself.

There's probably some hilarious shit you could do with it though, Pike just going solo on every away mission because he literally cannot be destroyed. Pike physically wrapping himself around any person in danger.

It's probably been mentioned but I really like the part in "Memento Mori" where the crew assert that the Enterprise won't survive a journey so close to the black hole and Pike confidently says "she'll hold". Not sure if the writers intended it as him leaning on his magic-fate-induced-invincibility or not but it's a cool beat if so.

Well, he also knows that he can change that future if he chooses to. He could put a phaser to his head and pull the trigger, the universe won't conspire to stop him. But if he just carries on doing normal Pike things, he's going to end up in the beep chair. Because the Pike we saw in the chair knew his fate and made those choices.

Sigh. I know but this adherence to the timeline is kind of frustrating. Why can't modern Trek dabble and change the crusty 60s timeline?
They only brought Pike back because of that 60s timeline. They could've gotten the same cast on the same sets and told almost exactly the same stories, except with different names. Captain Joseph Pace on the Constitution-class USS Endeavor with half-Vulcan science officer Tevek, communications officer Mwimbaji, plus La'an, Pelia, Ortegas and Mitchell.

But they wanted to tell the story of what the Enterprise and her crew were up to before TOS, so if they change the timeline they break the premise.

OK fair enough.....

That was largely the point of the Kelvin universe. You kind of have to adhere to a timeline when you're telling a prequel story to fill out a gap in a universe and add some context to pre-existing material.

I have a feeling you will get your wish and there will be a reboot next decade.

It's not so much a reboot I would want but the way they are writing Pike. He's good and all but they are writing him in a way I find frustrating

I prefer Season 1 and 2 Pike, but Season 3 Anson Mount seems fine enough to me. This is Pike post-Talos IV but before the training vessel accident. He can be....a little weird and feel janky because he's going to end up in a different place anyways.

I know but they keep putting him in danger over and over and over knowing he can't be hurt. From a viewing POV it feels dull and frustrating. He can withstand anything, probably even Gorn eggs because "it's not his time yet"
