Actually, they never say "In the corridor outside sickbay". What they say is that the wounded have been sent to the "overflow infirmary". Twice.
And we have seen the overflow infirmary before. It's a cargo bay size room with two levels of bio beds, but I can't remember what episode it was in.
They over explained the Gorn enough this episode that I kept thinking "they absolutely wouldn't work as a regular species let alone a star-faring one".
They also need to stop using "the Enterprise might be destroyed" as any sort of tension point since we know it can't be destroyed.

I really don't get why, on a show where literally every other member of the main cast has gotten entire episodes that focus on their character, Ortegas is consistently given the short end of the stick.
Hell, even some recurring characters, like Kirk, have gotten weightier stuff.
It never was going to be destroyed. This goes back to "Corbomite Maneuver" and "The Naked Time."
Do people honestly believe that the ship in the credits is actually at risk and that somehow impacts the tension of the scene?
Historical drama must be hard, as is weekly episodic television were characters are captured and threatened but don't actually die. Talk about a buzz kill...

I honestly think the writers just don’t know what to do with her. With such short seasons, and with more developed characters to focus on, somebody was going to end up being extraneous. She’s basically just a glorified placeholder with a couple of snarky lines until Sulu arrives.
Pilots are hard to write for.
They have higher capacity cargo transporters that can be be temporary reconfigured for people (et al)....

I don't think a serial show included the expectations that the ship will be destroyed. I find that to be a highly dubious standard of expectation.
Did you ever think the Enterprise was going to be destroyed when watching TOS/TNG?
This was a solid 9/10. Pike really shined in this episode and proved why he's the best Captain in Starfleet at this time. The rest of the cast all got a moment to prove themselves as well, and I thought the ending made sense and set up future events nicely. This was a great start to Season 3.
I'm still surprised that Spock or Chapel never brought up the transporter buffer as an option to keep batel safe until they came up with a solution. The transporters were still working. I hope this season we get a line by MBenga thanking Scotty by showing him how to keep wounded officers in the transporter buffers. Geordi seemed genuinely impressed when scotty did it in tng.
Sorry about the spam, but I had to respond to this. I'm not up on her "future" history but do we know if she dies or not? My fear is that she'll be dead somehow so as to explain why she wasn't around in the Menagerie.
There's no information as to Una's future.

I really like the new opening titles.
I still think Scotty v3 was cast a little too young. But he works great with Pelia, the two actors seem to have good chemistry.
I dunno about Pike starting to say the “our father” before Batel woke up. I know they established he’s somewhat religious back on Disco but it kinda stuck out to me here.
I loved Spock and Chapel trying to save Batel until it veered into their relationship. That whole plot line is just ugh. And I still don’t get why Spock had to apologize to her, she’s the one that publicly, embarrassingly broke up with him via song in the bar in front of alot of the crew. Kinda feels like Leah apologizing to Geordi for discovering his holoprogram of her.
Also kinda feels like they are setting up a reverse of TOS where instead of Chapel pining for Spock, he pines for her.
I’m torn, on one hand I really like Ortegas. On the other, killing her off here would have been a very bold move and a really great way for her to go out. “My name is Erica Ortegas and I fly the ship”.
Seasons off to a good start.

The only person who knew how to do that procedure safely was Dr M'Benga, and he was part of the landing party that was held on me Gorn Destroyer.
