That was... fine. I definitely think Part 1 is the stronger episode, and like others have said, a fairly strong conclusion up until the last 10 minutes, where everything became very rushed. I think the implication is that this will be the last we see of the Gorn on SNW? If so, that seems like a strange choice, they were an interesting choice for the villains of this season (even if they're far too similar to the Xenomorphs). There were a lot of plot beats pushed into one episode, between hiding from the Gorn, trying to out race the Gorn, trying to lure the Gorn, and then trying to put the Gorn to sleep. I found it somewhat comical how Scotty would begin a sentence saying something was impossible, but ending the sentence with the convoluted steps needed to maybe make it happen.
I also agree that there should be more stakes, but I'm also holding out on there being more long-term repercussions for Ortegas. Given she's one of the few characters we don't know the fate of, I honestly wasn't sure if she would live or die. I thought her losing two of her fingers would be a source of tension, making it difficult for her to pilot the escape ship, but she didn't really seem hampered by that particular ailment. I would be really interesting to see her deal with a injury like that in future episodes -- I really hope they don't just have her be healed and never mention it again.
That being said, I liked all of the different set pieces. The bridge, sick bay, Gorn ship, and to an extent the science lab all got their moment to shine, it just felt like there wasn't enough time to give everyone the attention they're all due. I'm also very curious where all these romances are going. Spock x Chapel seems even more will-they-won't-they than before they got together, and while Batel survived this encounter, given that Pike is fated to spend his days on Talos IV with a character Discovery made a point to explicitly bring into the modern age, I don't like her chances.
