I use to be able to walk in to Canada from a national park.

That was a discussed and presumed solution, but never stated on screen. If it was, the discussion wouldn't have happened, because it would have had an easy answer.Don't recall that. But if so, both ways?
Sometime between when the NYT 2018 picture and Sept 2024 they added some pedestals to put the potted plants on.Not sure about today but just within a few years ago, The US/Canada border between Stanstead Quebec, and Derbyline Vermont was separated literally by a sidewalk and a row of potted plants. No joke.

Google maps street view looking up Church Street from Derby Line, VT to Stanstead, Quebec.

I rolled my eyes at that one, too, but at least they attempted to explain it. Should have made it a running gag, then, and a joke about how easily swayed we are by money, or something.
???
La'an and Kirk literally talk about bribing the border guard in the first scene set in Vermont. Indeed, you even said you "rolled your eyes" over that line back in July 2023:
If you’re looking for a serious real world answer (not that one is remotely necessary), I can assure you that if I were so inclined, I could cross the border each way without going through official stations without too much trouble almost anywhere between St-Armand and East Hereford, QC, which would take me to northern Vermont. (My dissertation is heavily focused on that stretch of border during the Prohibition era and I have visited just about the entire stretch of that border in the past 50 years). It’s not as easy as it used to be but it’s still not that difficult.I know that we as the audience are not supposed to think about it, but how the hell did Kirk and La'an cross the border and cleared customs when they went to see Pelia in Vermont?

Her Romulan tricoder, if it's batteries had not run dry, would have gone "Ping!" when it noticed them beaming in from the future. No need to overthink it. It’s just a very minor element of the overall story. I would have left out any reference to the border entirely.
On a rewatch, my mind actually changed on this episode. I liked it better the second time around, mainly because it set up La'Ann's arc for the season, and it wasn't just about being romantically involved with Kirk. It was about her finally breaking out of her shell and not being ashamed of her name. If I were to regrade this episode, it probably would have gotten an 8, not a 6.
I mean...it was an alternate reality Kirk and he died. Hard to remember things when it was your alternate reality self.this was one of the best episodes in season 2
if you think about it this was actually the 1st time james tiberius kirk time traveled to the past then the 2nd time was in star trek 4 when the crew traveled to the past even thought in this one in strange new world when lana saved the future it was only kirk who forgot everything about his adventures with lana
Kirk traveled to the past at least four times: "City on the Edge of Forever", "Tomorrow is Yesterday", "Assignment Earth" and "All Our Yesterdays". Five if you count "Yesteryear". Also three days in the past in "The Naked Time" All before Star Trek 4.this was one of the best episodes in season 2
