At any rate, reportedly Avery Brooks was pleased with the final product, and if it pleased him, then I can live with it too.
Honestly, thinking on it, what was established in Lower Decks is as vague and open to interpretation as what happened in Starfleet Academy. It wasn't anything that Mariner said, Sisko wasn't even mentioned by name in the episode, it was Kira's contemplation of the wormhole with Sisko's baseball still on the desk. Honestly, both stories leave things open to interpretation, so I really fail to see the problem. He is still, as Darem called him, "Schrodinger's Prophet". We don't really have any more of a definitive answer to the Sisko question after Series Acclamation Mil then we did before. I don't even think that providing definitive answers was even the point of the episode. I think we all would have liked details on that happily ever after for Sisko and Kasidy, but I honestly wasn't expecting it one way or the other.Even if you accept everything Mariner says as fact (which I personally don't), that still would only mean that he had not publicly returned as of 2381.
