Not unimportant. A show that takes place in the future needs to look like it. Putting people in clothing from styles hundred of years from the past and pass it off as futuristic takes a person watching it out of the story. According to your logic why even design a futuristic spaceship. Let's just use a 1980s style NASA space shuttle design and say its a 24th century space ship.
What makes TOS clothes futuristic?

I wish there was an option in the poll to rate the first half and second half separately, because I don't think I've ever watched an episode where my opinion has shifted so dramatically.

The first half, I'd give that 2 out of 10, I couldn't stand it. Not just the fourth wall breaking and the stuff on the screen, but the comedy music. It's almost a parody of whatever it was that inspired it. If anyone wants to call this the worst episode of Star Trek, I get where they're coming from.

But for me the second half jumps right up to 6 out of 10. I liked the tribute to DS9 and the characters hanging out in the club. Plus I gave it a bonus point for not changing anything about the relics from the past. Well, except for the Cardassian makeup, that was a bit... distracting. Unfortunately I had to take that point away again for ending with a face in the clouds to show that a character is still around in spirit or whatever.

That averages out as... 5 out 10. Don't correct my maths, it's fine.

I don't follow social media but has Dennis McCarthy come out and asked why he didn't get credit notes for using the DS9 theme at the end of the episode. I've been following the Paramount Intro thread talking about an artist talking about that subject and maybe since it's all owned by Paramount it doesn't really matter, but I was wondering if anyone outside of here asked that question and if Tawny or any of the other producers addressed it.

This is nothing but a painful parody of Star Trek, no interesting characters or stories whatsoever. Everyone is behaving completely childisch, even the Doctor is just a shadow if it's former self. So far, the only relatable character is Kelrec ... and that's saying a lot!

I liked this episode even better than the one from last week, which I gave 8/10 ... but upon rewatching, I guess last week's episode dropped somewhat, to 6.5/10 or 7/10 ... and I give this one 8/10.

It was a really nice hommage to Ben and Jake Sisko. I fully enjoyed that part of the episode. What drags it down *a little*, is that I still find SAM annoying rather than funny or relatable.

Spock drinks alcohol both in TOS and SNW. Insisting that behavior is monolithic in any culture is rooted in social anxiety, as well as being fundamentally unobservant.

Plus, though I suspect partly to forget he's in the movie, he doesn't complain about the bourbon in Bones' beans in TFF.

Does anybody know the name of the song that is playing when SAM starts the bar fight? The closed captioning shows the lyrics as "I'll find a remedy, pure energy" but when I search for it, I find no matches.
For those who are curious: I did some investigation into this, and it turns out that nearly all the hip-hop/electronic-style music you hear in Starfleet Academy was created by Dan the Automator, who is credited for "Additional Music". So I think the song in question was created just for the episode, and is thus not available anywhere else.

I'm not seeing this on her Instagram
I don't know how to post a link, but it's there.
I'll post the text

Second to last slide is Kerrice on the phone with Mr. Brooks. He called Cirroc one night after we wrapped and asked to speak to us. There’s too much to say about that call. But what I can tell you is Mr. Brooks is forever the best father figure in the galaxy. He congratulated us, encouraged us, and handed Kerrice the reins.
