I have mixed feelings about the episode. I loved the aspects of SAM's self discovery through exploration of the legend of Ben Sisko.

But I am also getting tired of the childishness of the feud between the Academy and the Military school. And I felt the holos she was reporting to were a little over the top in their overt hostility and dismissiveness when they could have been portrayed with more nuanced skepticism of organics.

There's so many things this series is doing well, but other aspects of the writing that just feel so petty and make me lose respect for the characters.

Trek needs to find some sort of relatable medium between TNG's "No conflict" and Starfleet Academy's "Elementary school playground level conflict".

They were enslaved by organics. Being hostile kind of tracks

Hostile to organics, not hostile to the newly born creature they gave a 17 year old personality to be their ambassador's every independent thought when she's trying to tell them what she's learned about them.

Having watched people interact with teens, hostility when they don't respond as expected is sadly more common than I like.

I think their hostility bleeds through to their emissary to the organics. They might even want her to fail.

Define properly for the era of time for a fictional history?

Same.

Properly for star trek 24th century. If you like people dressed in 21st century walmart clothing off the shelf in a show taking place hundreds of years from now more power to you. I think its lazy on behalf of the wardrobe team.

Define 24th century fashion, please? What are the rules, guidelines and stipulations? How does that go forward in time and impact the 32nd century?

This is the problem. There is not defined rule for 24th century because it isn't a real historical period. It's based off of the budget and needs of the episode, not a through line of design. Jumpsuits can only go so far.

Ah. So unimportant minutiae. Got it. Thanks!

Not unimportant. A show that takes place in the future needs to look like it. Putting people in clothing from styles hundred of years from the past and pass it off as futuristic takes a person watching it out of the story. According to your logic why even design a futuristic spaceship. Let's just use a 1980s style NASA space shuttle design and say its a 24th century space ship.

What about the texture of futuristic snacks?

Look, my point is that as long as it looks like it could perform the desired function, I don’t care. I don’t spend my life worrying about whether or not uniforms can show buttons or snaps. I don’t care if in one episode it takes three days to get to an alien planet when it’s been established that it should take six. I don’t care if it nacelles don’t match their purpose in a different episode.

That’s what I mean by unimportant minutiae. Good god, man. First and foremost, how much this entire franchise holds together from “The Cage” to “Series Acclimation Mil” is pretty incredible. It ain’t perfect but it isn’t bad either. And for those details that don’t (and good lord there have been some doozies of square pegs in round holes when it comes to continuity), Star Trek fans may have made note of them a dozen times over. But they’ve also worked to pound those suckers in so they fit.

So yeah, I get annoyed with the general whining of “this doesn’t fit.” Because there have frankly been better fans who have made worse work. Me? I just don’t care to make that effort any longer. As some might say, “I’m just here for the vibes.”

You have someone on the PA making jokes about looking at his morning wood. If you can accept that, people dressing like they stepped out of Paris Fashion Week is relatively minor by comparison. lol
