I wonder how much of Picard season 2 was Matalas and how much was Goldsman. As one of the few surviving lovers of season 2 it's interesting to me how he could be involved in one thing I love and then with sole control creates something I retcon out of existence in my own head with disdain.

That move doesn't reflect very well on Feige or the state of the MCU does it?
I'm not sure I'd necessarily throw Feige under the bus for that. He is a businessman, and from a strictly business perspective, it does make sense to hire someone as buzzworthy as Matalas. But, yes, it does speak volumes about the state of the MCU that they have to pull such a Hail Terry* and hire someone who really is a rather shockingly bad writer.

*Yes, I know what I wrote there.
The elements of the fanbase he enabled and connected with during the last couple years doesn't endear his skills as a showrunner to me in the least. Or instances when he was directly called out for supporting toxic folks like RMB and he just shrugged it off. So many red flags.
Yeah, once again, I remind everyone, RMB is the guy who said a woman should be publicly sexually assaulted for writing an episode he didn't like. And this is the guy who Matalas extended an olive branch to in order to hype Picard S3 and granted inside access to the season while it was in production. Let that sink in.
I'm not sure I buy that Matlas wasn't aware that the Titan was a Luna Class
Well, whether or not you buy it, it is true.
Oh, is there more to that statement? No, seriously, you just kind of ended your post there.

Okay, I'll stop being a smartass as I suspect you were going to point out we see Luna class ships in the fleets in both season 2 and 3. The VFX people inserted those using STO assets (as reflected by how many STO ships are in those fleets). It's possible Matalas wasn't aware of this at all, as the showrunner has n reason to know about background details like that. Even if he were, the work on those scenes would have been done well after the script was finished, including the rewrites after Matalas learned about the Titan being Luna class.

The big question is what the shape of the season was in that original version they'd written before the pandemic? I know they've said that Terry had to move onto writing/production of season 3 while season 2 was midway through production, but my thought is he had to move away when the staff had to rewrite season 2, not during the original sessions. That would explain the incoherent mess we got with a room lacking additional writers to help and lacking any decent amount of time to complete the work.

Lest we also forget that RMB actively doxxed multiple people critical of the Axanar project on Twitter while he was still attached to it as a director. His behavior became abhorrent enough for Paramount to basically blacklist him from ever working on another home video project for them ever again.

I mean... It's also that he would have had to have ignored pretty much everyone else given how well known Titan = Luna Class was.

Terry wanted so, so bad to retcon the first couple seasons out of existence.
No he didn't.
You've reminded me that the show clearly intended for the Titan-A to be renamed the Picard at the end
They said they considered it early on while in the writing stage buy ultimately settled on the Enterprise, it wasn't changed during/after filming.

I wonder how much of Picard season 2 was Matalas and how much was Goldsman.
Well it was Terry's idea to go to the past. And he was always the go to guy for Season 2 interviews, he was the one trying to explain away the plot holes and such, not Goldsman.

That move doesn't reflect very well on Feige or the state of the MCU does it? Hell, if VisionQuest turns out to be good, I'll be happy to be wrong, but I bet the show doesn't turn out to be any better.

Personally, I think Terry got lucky with Twelve Monkeys and kinda failed upwards to Picard. The elements of the fanbase he enabled and connected with during the last couple years doesn't endear his skills as a showrunner to me in the least. i really hate how certain segments of the fanbase have weaponised PIC s3 against the other shows, especially Disco and now, SFA.

'Only PIC S3 was TRUE Trek. We want Legacy! The other Kurtzman stuff is WOKE TRASH, put Matalas in charge', et cetera.

And it was very noticeable that Terry never did a thing to quell any of that movement.

What's deeply frustrating to me is the need to compare segments of Star Trek against each other. One would imagine that aspects of the franchise built on the premise of diversity would be ok with appealing to a variety of audiences and demographics.

Instead, it's a bludgeoning tool.

Bernd over at EAS made some interesting observations (Yes he can make those too, I mean that is 90% of his website)

"liebe Kinderlein" means "little children" in German.

The Writer or director really themed the operas to the episode.
It means lovely (or cute or dear) little toddlers, which is funny with all those 20yo in the room :D
Her German was better than his, IIRC.

We watched this tonight.

We liked this one, too.

You’ve got the whole range of stuff going on. The Doctor is singing opera. The Betazoids are in the house. Reno!
