Star Trek Rotten Tomatoes Rating

So I just bought my tickets. I am going with 8 other people. I am the only Star Trek fan... :)

They are encouraged by rottentomatoes reviews...

I know a fence-sitter, too, who came around. He said the other day he didn't really know if he wanted to see "Beverly Hills 90210 in space", then I showed him the critics quote page from the official site. After that, he ordered his ticket.

The good reviews of Iron Men is what encouraged me to see it in theater, and the bad reviews of Wolverine changed my desire to see it in the theaters to a future Netflix rental. I've definitely chosen to see movies becomes of reviews that I would have chosen not to or would have waited on DVD. They do make a difference in some cases, and I think will be crucial for Star Trek in particular since this movie has a lot of baggage that could keep people away. The good reviews will hopefully give those fence sitters cause to think, "Hmm... this might be a good one to catch after all."

Though they haven't updated the count, rottentomatoes posted two new reviews this morning, both calling the film, one of the best of the year!!! wow....

Eventually, especially when more reviewers from newspapers start to appear on RT, someone will have a negative review. The question will be whether or not it's credible, or the person is just pissing in the punch bowl for attention.

Actually, I'd love to read a sincere and well-reasoned pan of the movie. Just one. Just to see if there is another valid point of view about this movie.

** 1/2 out of **** is considered a negative review, right? Ebert's ** 1/2 movies were always thumbs downs.

That's what Christy Lemire of the AP (meaning a lot of newspapers that don't have their own critic will probably run it) gave the movie. And that's mostly because she doesn't like the Old Spock stuff.

There's no way to know for sure what a star rating means without an author's key - there's no government-mandated standard for stars. We have a local restaurant critic, for example, who apparently uses a three-star system - really kind of confusing.

I'm so excited about this movie now...I can't describe it! 90% of my old qualms and worries are gone!

The review does say two-and-a-half stars out of four. It's still not a terrible review, though.

Edited to add, she gave Hannah Montana's movie two stars, which was considered a "fresh" review on RT.

2-1/2 out of four isn't spectacular by any means, but compared to most of the reviews INS and NEMESIS got years back it might as well be a grade worthy of Oscar attention.
