Star Trek Picard is not Star Trek

There have been so many shows and movie franchises where I dedicated years following them and in the end it turns out to be just some bizarre shaggy-dog story. This is my greatest fear with Picard as well.

TBF Number One is not very shaggy.

No. The real Star Trek was the one from the 1920s. The one that Gene Roddenberry imagined when he was a kid, when he played make-believe.

So yes. The "real" Star Trek was "make believe". Even the one from 95 years ago.

It certainly feels inconsistent, but then so does every new addition to the franchise. And it isn't the same new high-concept sci-fi every week as the more episodic Trek's, and I kind of miss that. But I really just find myself enjoying the hell out of it. I think of it almost as its own alternate universe, as I think of most series and movies in the franchise. As I think of different episodes within series sometimes. They're only kinda fit in their own individually way. But I've watched each episode of PIC like 10 times now, which is more than I can say for DSC (which I like but can only watch once or twice) and ENT which I loathed, as I watched each and every episode.

Gilgamesh was the only real Star Trek. Half human best friend, monsters, deities, immortals, the limits of humanity explored. The whole series was defined there. The rest is just a bunch of crappy reboots.
Meh, kids these days with their epic story structures and fancy cuneiform. Back in my day real Star Trek was about mammoth hunters and could only be painted on cave walls! And with tested-and-true earth colors only, none of these demonic, gaudy plant- and snail-based blues and purples that fade from the rock in five years! It's not art, it's just mindless entertainment for the ignorant young'uns that don't even know how to make flint rock axes anymore!

Star Trek 2009 is not Star Trek.
Star Trek Into Darkness is not Star Trek
Star Trek Beyond is not Star Trek
Star Trek Discovery is not Star Trek
Star Trek Picard is not Star Trek

This is just my personal opinion, i dont want to start any discussion

I have to ask, if you didn’t want to start any discussion, why did you come to a discussion board and make a public post that starts a discussion. I think you did want to start a discussion and I think you wanted to share your dislike. Fair enough if you dislike it, you’re wrong about it not being Trek, no matter how good or bad it is, but you shouldn’t be dishonest about not wanting to start a discussion.

1998 would have been season 7 of DS9 and season 5 of Voyager. I don't think I saw too much of seasons 5 and 6 of Voyager and missed a handful of DS9 eps just because I didn't know when it was on for a bit there.

I eventually did go back and watch all of Voyager. While I like Seven, I really didn't like the Hirogen, 8472 or the Krenim arc. And Voyager was what ruined the Borg for me.

As I said, I watched all of Enterprise. And I may be the only one who really doesn't like season 4. I think I did at the time but time can change your opinion.

You're not the only one. I just recently went back and watched all of ENT and while I also remember liking season 4 the best at the time (not shocking since I didn't see most of seasons 2 or 3 back then), in hindsight it's really only the Vulcan/Andorian storylines from it that were actually worth watching. The rest was pretty bad actually. Especially the augment stuff, which I had enjoyed the first time around. These days I'd actually say ENT was at its best in season 2, though it wasn't exactly a high bar.

Same here. I didn't care much for season 4 back in the day already but these days, while I like the rest of ENT (season 2 is my fave also), season 4 just falls flat for me due to its excessive levels of obvious fan service. I liked that the show had found its unique way in season 3 (whether it's a good one or not is up to interpretation, of course) and I'm still disappointed that season 4 went back to "playing it safe" by basically doing the storylines the "why is ENT not trying to establish what's being said and done on TOS/other Trek" faction of the fandom demanded.

If the OP really has an issue with Picard then he may be better off deleting his account.

That way he won't be tempted back, I deleted mine years ago although that was simply due to nothing Star Trek related being released and me having an almighty account cleanup, I hadn't used the account in ages.

I came close to doing so again but decided to wait and see about Picard first.

I am not a big forum camper like some of you are.
This forum has without a doubt the best Trek lit community on the web. The general science fiction and fantasy forum has been the first thing I look at in the morning for 15 years. More than enough to keep me coming back during the Star Trek drought of 2005 and 2017. (Yes, I know about the movies, they just didn't appeal to me, so they wouldn't have brought me back here if I had left.)

Mistress Harley explains it all.;)
