Star Trek Picard is not Star Trek

Nope, hidden under the desk.
Ummm ... At least I remembered correctly that there was a chair nearby.

I dont care what this Star Trek Picard fans say, is not Star Trek and It wont never be. This series doesnt represent Star Trek, Gene Rodenberry's vision. Until Enterprise ended, It evolved but always inside that vision, just in different ways.

Gene is dead. It hasn't been his "vision" since TNG S3.

Do we really want to go back to the days of problems being resolved in 45 minutes?

Seven's cybernetic eye on Voyager was an absolute joke. No thermal vision, x-ray vision, zoom, or ultrasound -- nothing that a soldier would actually use. However, turn a few screws and Voila! Seven can see through time!

Gene's "vision" can be constricting -- even suffocating -- at times. :shifty:

Now that they are making many series, I think it would be nice if one of them was more episodic. Frankly, I miss that. I miss getting that complete story, conclusion and all under an hour. I'm a bit burned by the serialisation. There have been so many shows and movie franchises where I dedicated years following them and in the end it turns out to be just some bizarre shaggy-dog story. This is my greatest fear with Picard as well.

This is hardly an original sentiment, but I do think that much of the perception that the new shows are too "dark" stems from the format more than the content. Harsh content seems less harsh when its wrapped up in forty-five minutes and everything is back to normal the very next ep.

Picard is brutally tortured to the point of breaking? Kirk sees his wife (and unborn child) stoned to death before his eyes? That's as rough as anything we've seen in the new shows, but then next episode everybody is back on bridge, bantering or drinking Earl Grey tea, and the horrors of last week are forgotten, never to be mentioned again.

Do we really want to go back to that?

I think you're right and no I don't. My biggest frustration is always the neat little wrap up that a lot of Trek used.

I get that media is part escapism. But, Trek purports to be more than that. So maybe, just maybe, there is room for more exploration of the human experience, including the tough stuff.

As for dialogue, it's always an issue. We can't write actual 2399 dialogue since we don't know what that would sound like. I don't know why it's preferable to go to some bland lowest-common-denominator version of English rather than to use current vernacular. But this does bother some people, yes.
Indeed. This reminds me of the argument made by some fans that TOS era Trek should look exactly like it did in 1966. The response, of course, is that in TOS we saw a 1966 representation of the fictional 23rd century. In Ent and DSC we are seeing a 21st century representation of the 22nd and 23rd centuries.

Same with dialogue. People were up in arms when Tilley first dropped an f bomb in DSC. But, just like PIC, we are hearing a 21st century representation of 24th century speech. It cannot, should not, sound exactly like 1966 or even 2005 speech.
I never said that.
Well someone you know probably did.

I swear, you guys are missing out on some great Trek in Ent seasons 3 and 4. You should give it a try. :)
