Yes, I was also confused about the borg. Bev says they haven't heard from them in a decade, but we saw them in s2. Jurati was the queen and they were looking for a friend in the Feds. Now she isn't there at all and the borg are dying.

That Galaxy class ship doesn’t have name or registry number on its hull.
It’s there, just the lighting and graphical rendering makes it less visible in some angles.. likely an error with the alpha layer of the model or the rough map.

Anyone else noticed how the ENT-D was maneuvering very quickly (like a fighter craft)?
Finally, SOMEONE remembered that starships use subspace fields to lower their inertial mass in Trek, so that size has minimal impact on a ship's maneuvarebility (but I still see they use impulse engines to get out of space dock etc. which doesn't make sense because impulse drive would result in speeds of about 74000 km/s (at least)... so, thrusters would have made more sense for leaving drydocks and starbases or approaching them.

Wrong collective.
There are about 5 separate Borg 'factions' in the galaxy.
The Borg Cooperative in the Nekrit Expanse (VOY), the Borg rebels from Unimatrix Zero (also VOY - though they are individuals and were disconnected from the Hive), Hugh's X-Borg (also technically separated from the collective), Jurati Borg (who originated from the Confederacy queen timeline) and the 'original Borg.

If we're just counting Borg who are in their own collectives... then the Borg Cooperative, Jurati Borg and main Borg (who were decimated at the end of Endgame in VOY by a neurolitic pathogen).

When Beverly said they hadn't heard from the Borg in a decade, she was likely referring to the 'original/main Borg' (not the other friendly collectives).

As far as some of the criticisms of Raffi being Seven's first officer and how that shouldn't happen given their prior relationship .... there's no indication in prior canon that Starfleet has the same fraternization rules that the US Military enforces.
  • Going back to TNG, Riker is over Troi as the executive officer of the Enterprise, even though they've had a prior, very serious relationship.
  • The same thing goes for the Decker-Ilia relationship in The Motion Picture. If Kirk doesn't assume command of the ship, Ilia would would have been a member of the Enterprise's senior staff, with her former boyfriend/lover (Decker) being her commanding officer.
  • Although never made explicit, I always took Deanna's position on the bridge of the Titan in Lower Decks as implying she's part of the senior staff, and may serve the same advisory "I feel deception" when communicating with an alien race role on the bridge under her husband's command.
  • Starfleet sends the husband-wife team of Worf and Jadzia on a mission. However, that incident in Deep Space Nine is arguably evidence for why it's not a good idea, since Worf abandons the mission to save Dax, with Sisko implying the decision might be a permanent stain on his record.

Regarding Worf and Dax going on that mission in "CHANGE OF HEART"...

Starfleet gave DS9 the mission. Kira was the one who sent them because they were the only two who had a high enough security clearance to do it, since Sisko was out on a mission himself. Had Sisko been there, I doubt he would have sent them both.

I think Starfleet can go either way with having a commanding officer having their spouse serve under them. Geordi mentioned his parents served separately and together. I personally don't think it's a good idea because it can lead to delayed decision making, resentment if the captain in the relationship uses their rank in an argument, etc. "CHANGE OF HEART" was a good illustration of another reason why it's a bad idea.

Undoing seasons 1 and 2 were part of the point.

For that it should be commended, not criticized.

I think we’re just supposed to forget about the first two seasons honestly.

Apparently the Poker scene at the end was all improvised by the cast, and there’s 45 minutes of it

Also have a picture of Walter Keoning holding the Titan

She was referring to the real Borg.

Didn't Will Riker assume command of the USS Titan at the end of ST: Nemesis? Troi (his wife) was his first officer I think (or at the very least she served under him as a councillor - and we saw her on his side in Lower Decks on the Titan).

I also don't think SF has any official rules about fraternization and spouses serving together on the same ship.
The main issue seems to stem from sending both souses on the same mission together which could cause problems.

I think it may be a similar situation with doctors where physicians generally should not treat themselves or members of their immediate families.

SF may have similar rules with their officers... not prohibited, but discouraged.
Serving on the same starship (with one as the captain and the other the subordinate) might not be an issue either... as long as they can show they can remain objective.

The episode worked for me, for the most part. I gave it top marks, but I accept I was being emotionally generous with that.

Would I have prefered her to stay Titan? Yes. But.... In the context of THIS episode.... Did it work? Yes.
Yeah, this is a thing isn't it. It sort of makes sense for Sydney, Jack and by extension, their parents. Unfortunately, It doesn't work for Shaw, Seven and possibly even Riker, to a degree. For their legacy, Titan-A should have remained that.

What else doesn't work is the Borg Queen "invitation"... to what end? I mean, at least it's kind of in keeping with the Borg often being much more stupid than their reputation would suggest.

Also, Worf. I feel like the rest of the TNG cast (plus Seven) got some kind of proper emotional closure from this, but not so much Worf. Worf was great, but it feels like he was already in his happy place from the beginning.

Thing is, I definitely want more 25th century Trek, but I'm actually less interested in the Star Trek: Legacy thing than I was going into this. It mostly seems like the "happily ever after" to the cast.

Yes, Data's season 1 end, was more satisfying than Nemesis, but Data becoming pretty much human, feels much more satisfying than even that.

Didn't Will Riker assume command of the USS Titan at the end of ST: Nemesis? Troi (his wife) was his first officer I think (or at the very least she served under him - and we saw her on his side in Lower Decks on the Titan).

She was actually Ship's counselor there and not first officer. Although I think she was like technically 3rd highest rank on the ship. Some posters said she was considered part of 'medical' and thus not actually part of the command structure although I would say that's a bit of semantics because how often did we see 'senior staff' meetings in TNG and you saw both Crusher and Troi there.

It wasn't just nitpicks though. This season fundamentally undid the core narrative aspects of both seasons 1 and 2:

Season 1 was fundamentally about Picard transitioning from a bitter old man who had shut everyone out to someone with purpose, direction, and a crew; along with saying goodbye to Data. The goodbye to data meant nothing - he was just a copy who was dismissed by the new Data. Shutting everyone out? He seemed happy enough to regale those cadets regarding his days in Starfleet even in the flashback. And the relationships we were introduced to (and were built) across Season 1 meant nothing to Picard in the long run. Even Raffi, who stayed in the series through the end, barely interacted with Picard this season.

Season 2 was about Picard facing down his childhood trauma and opening himself up to the possibility of a relationship with Laris, along with saying goodbye to Q. The promise of the relationship with Laris was never paid off, and Q's death is now rendered meaningless.

Okay. I see your point and I understand where it's coming from. But for me S1 and S2 remains with those moments even though it feels meaningless for you ... I don't feel them meaningless. They served the story at that point of time, and like the Data consciousness in S1 was really suffering and Picard ending it still feels as a heartbreaking moment for me. That consciousness was Data but in the same time he could exists beyond that. The copy was made during Nemesis, and from Nemesis on we have 2 active Data consciousness already one in B4 and one that looked to die on the explosion, but maybe they have recovered that one too somehow. But maybe this is exactly the same consciousness as in S1 ... Still I get it that the virtual reality Data didn't want to remain active and the farewell moment is still real in S1 for Data and Picard too, and Data could really feel that this new human form is a good new state of existing.

With Laris I get what you say ... In my mind they are still together, but the effect of Jack is a heavy one too and I think both cen coexist. Now, if they will say in Legacy that Picard is back with Beverly and not with Laris anymore that would be bad ... Or at least bloody annoying and completely what you are saying. But I don't see anything pointing towards Picard being together with Beverly, I only say Picard opening up to the fact that he has a son.

And saying goodbye to Q remains a touching moment for me, and even though Q does exists in a wicked out of time way the parting with Picard, their last moments together is still a heavy one for me and a real one.

What I'm saying that S3 does not destroy S1 and S2 for me, it only opens up possibilities and in some cases even hardening some of those moments in S1 and S2. I love S3 but I also love S1 and S2 and I hope we will get some continuations to the stories and characters from there in the future. The doors are wide open and that is the beauty of it. How nice it would be to get a moment when Jean-Luc is presenting Jack to Laris ... To see that on screen.

Season 2 never happened. It was all a holodeck program or the Nexus or something.

Yeah, this totally. It undoes nothing. S1 and S2 still have their place, and I'm looking forward to full rewatch of all 3 when I can find the time.

So you have some anecdotes of non awful outcomes, so what? Obviously there are some positive outcomes of the system, but as a whole it is awful. There are people who have died because they cannot afford insulin. There are people who avoid seeing a doctor because it is too expensive and then don't get the treatment they need and end up getting sicker or dying. There are people who travel to other countries to get care and recently that led to people getting killed. The system as a whole is awful. Go tell someone who lost a loved one because of costs that the system is fine because your dad didn't die. Go tell families hit with 10s of thousands in bills that their financial suffering is OK because your family got the care they needed and it didn't saddle anyone with debt.

The American healthcare system is horrible. This includes hospitals, drug companies, doctors, and insurers. On a whole it costs about 2x per person than the UK system. It costs over 3 Trillion every year in the US, and this does not include the cost of it's failings. If other countries have a system that works just as well if not better and costs 1/2 the price, then the expensive one is a bad system. If someone else can do better for half the cost, then that means the US is wasting half the money spent. They are wasting ~ 1.5 Trillion each year or more. That is more than 2x the defense budget which is often cited as excessive. Where does that money go to? Drug companies, Hospitals, and doctors. It makes them rich at the cost of a poor experience for everyone. That it works in some, even most cases is no excuse because it is a catastrophic waste for this country and for a lot of people it creates misery.

No, it's not. And my 'anecdotes of non awful outcomes' is no less relevant that **that other guy's** anecdote of an awful outcome. That's the problem with replacing critical thinking and fact based analytics with mob rules and social media hysteria.

Canadians less satisfied in their access to health care than Americans
https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/canada-health-care-access-1.6574184

Terence Graham has been waiting anxiously for weeks to receive urgent CT scan results after experiencing "noticeable swelling" in the back of his head that gave him "blinding headaches."

The 55-year-old Canadian Forces veteran, who lives in Laird, Ont., about 40 kilometres southeast of Sault Ste. Marie, said he was checked out at the local emergency department on July 27. Not only did it take nearly three weeks to get the scan, he says he's since been unable to get the results.

The findings of a new Angus Reid Institute poll conducted in Canada and the U.S. in August suggest Canadians are significantly less satisfied with their access to health care than their American neighbours.

https://www.reuters.com/world/ameri...ending-strained-healthcare-system-2022-12-22/

About half of Canadians surveyed last month said they were satisfied with health services over the past year, down from 66% in 2021 and 68% in 2020, according to an Ipsos Canada poll.

People are also increasingly concerned about the future viability of universal healthcare, with 57% saying they believe the current rate of spending is unsustainable, up from 52% last year, Ipsos said.

"Canadians are very pessimistic about our ability to be able to sustain the current level of spending," said Sebastien Dellaire, senior vice president at Ipsos Canada.

Canada has the fourth-lowest number of funded acute care beds per capita among countries in the 38-member Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Now obviously that is not a comprehensive list of every nation with a **different** healthcare system, nor does it mean that everyone in the UK and Canada takes issue with what they get. But step outside the artificially constricted walls of social media and you'll find that not everyone agrees that universal healthcare is the best and not everyone agrees that market driven healthcare is the worst.

Anyway, I'm done on this topic since apparently it is verboten **ACCORDING TO A CERTAIN PERSON WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS BUT HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR HARASSMENT** to speak a contrary point of view to a certain... protected...political class here.

@dinzy , I can understand that most posters are probably not reading the entire thread, but @LongHauler and another poster were told to take the whole healthcare system tangent elsewhere, and you got it started again. You get a 3-day reply ban from this thread.

@LongHauler , you were told directly. Permanent replay ban from this thread and a Warning.

The final episode was good and this could be my final venture in Star Trek. Until there's a new showrunner for CBSALLACCESS+ Trek. Picard the entire season was full of remember berries which were nice and I am glad to finally see the Enterprise again, and the cast which were a wonder since 1987.
You should try Paramount+ instead. They’re doing a great job with their Star Trek.

A Big Finale! Somewhat flawed, but overall enjoyable.
What I liked:
-President Chekov!
-Cool action shots of the Enterprise-D
-The interactions among the TNG crew, especially between Riker and Worf on the Mega Cube
-The scene between Picard and his son in the Collective Consciousness.
-Sleepy Worf
-Shaw's assessment of Seven of Nine (he was still a jerk).
-The series ending with the crew playing poker.

What I didn't like:
-The Beacon was built into the Mega Cube in such a way its destruction would destroy the Cube?
-The Queen wanted drones to start reproducing sexually? Was she going to make the assimilated crew members get busy after they bombarded Earth?
-Renaming the Titan the Enterprise-G. The name Enterprise has such a storied history in Trek, would people really recognize it as a homage to just the crew of the Enterprise-D/E? I mean at least the crews of the NX-01, nil/A, and the Enterprise-C were Big Damn Heroes too.
-So the writers couldn't come up with an actual role for Jack on the Enterprise-G? Special counselor? What? With all his craftiness and experience providing medical help to those in need, why not have him in Engineering or Sickbay?

What I neither liked nor disliked:
-It seemed pretty obvious we were going to get an action-movie ending instead of a more thoughtful ending of the kind we got in "All Good Things".
-Emotional Data.
-Oh Q! You little rascal! Showing up on Picard after your death.

Overall 9/10
