I gave it an 8, if Jack Crusher went to jail for treachery it would be a 20 from me. As for that other guest star.....really? I know the TNG crew have Lazarus syndrome but really?????
Off to read this 50 page (for now) thread.

I've dropped it to a 7 for dumping Laris. Hope she blew up the vineyard or put laxative in the wine bottles.
I've dropped it to a 6 on second viewing. You mean telling Jack he was about to kill billions of people could not be used as a motive to persuade him, then the guy is a psychopath and should be sent to Vulcan.

It appeals to me as a OG fan of Star Trek TOS. It felt to me like what TOS would have been if produced in an era of better technology. It was (is) Star Trek to me.

I find that’s more true of SNW, whereas DSC visually worked for me as a prequel to the movie era and TMP. Unfortunately, its stories just didn’t land with me, and the time jump business did t work for me either. I can see it really trying to be hard SF at times, but something never quite lands.

Complete side note, but when I’m scrolling your AV lands in my brain as the poster for The Craft, rather than the sailboat TNG crew. Completely weird. Lol.

I think the performance just about sold it, he was basically high on the idea being fed to him by the Queen… a bit heavy handed as a sort of laying in to the failed Communism of the twentieth century, (or possibly some modern protest movements if people read it that way) and the whole ‘ends justifies the means’ thing. He’s like Anakin Skywalker if Anakin was off his t*ts on the Emperors personal supply. He’s quite a tragic figure, but there’s not enough time to really deal with that though.
A different performance and I would have to agree though. This dude is damaged.

Yup. Yup it will.

And we'll get the TWOK effect.
That TWOK effect that led to a trilogy of movies that saved the franchise after previous initial attempts failed to connect with the greater audience or gather critical acclaim?

Discovery has its fans, but it hasn’t connected with the larger fanbase in the same way that Picard season 3 has. Discovery has not had a season where fans, by and large, have walked out of it feeling satisfied the way this one has. Just like TMP, Discovery has a niche fanbase within the larger audience of Star Trek, but it doesn’t represent the Trek either visually or story wise that people get hyped for.

No, the TWOK effect of it being the greatest film ever and must be remade by multiple producers, like First Contact, Nemesis, ST 09 and ID.

So what? That's why we have multiple Trek shows so that more than one person can feel satisfied rather than the same old, same old.
I learned long ago I'm not much of a target demographic for anything worth selling.
Same here but it's nice to be talked down to from time to time for the things I like. Makes me feel special ;)

ENT was a tiny niche fanbase until it began to rapidly expand in recent years and with the streaming era of viewing. Now it gets more love in the form of in-universe references than most other pre-2017 Trek series.

For sure if Picard S3 does well, it will be the formula that Paramount Plus will want to use going forward.

But how much nostalgia is there left to strip mine?

Honestly I'm surprised they don't just re-do The Original Series. Complete the 5 year mission.

I'm not sure what you mean. Discovery was constantly member-berrying.

I'm asking for a show that doesn't do that. Or at least on very limited basis.

If you were attached to Klingons as they used to be, DSC was not kind to you from day one. (I’m trying to be unbiased) If you had certain opinions of Starfleet, or the look of that era, it was not kind to you with its radical interpretations. If you were into Trek-Tech, the mushroom drive and Klingon designs likely wouldn’t sit well. If you remembered Voyager being stuck, it didn’t sit well.
Like I said, it depends on your point of view on a bunch of things, but one thing that was true about DSC from day one was that it was at least as interested in subverting expectation or running in direct opposition to some accepted things, as it was in pulling references from the parent show.
I actually think I would *maybe* enjoyed DSC more and stuck with it, if I didn’t already like Trek and was familiar with its past. This is especially true when Control turned up, and I had already suffered that in the Trek books.

I actually tried coming back with the Time Jump, and quite liked some of it, but that time it just failed to hold my attention, despite trying to do some pretty cool things. May have just been me that year — Foundation fell into exactly the same problem, and as a show *feels* very very similar to DSC. Despite me having very little attachment to those books. My favourite thing in that show was watching William Russell’s son do his thing. He is an excellent actor, but like DSC, it just couldn’t hold my attention.

Deep Space Nine and all the characters.

More Voyager characters and a ton of injokes around Harry Kim. Janeway obviously is still around and showing up, as is Chakotay. Might as well as Tom, B'Elanna and their daughter. Revisit the Delta Quadrant.

Follow up on Ash Tyler and the Klingons in the "Game of Bat'leths" movie. Kor, Kang and Koloth all support the new regime in a bid for the heart and soul of the Klingon Empire.

Captain Sulu.

Captain Chekov and his gun.

EMH's sing-a-long.

Yup. The 32nd century is boring. Too bad we have to go through a academy series set I'm that time frame. It will be like watching WB star trek. I'm sure there will be lots of tears. Lol

We don't "have to." We can not watch. Just like how I chose to not sit through Enterprise, which I found boring and a copy of much better plots

I don’t begrudge Discovery’s existence. I just wish some of the Discovery/SNW fans didn’t feel the need to tell the rest of us that we’re “wallowing in the past” for supporting a Legacy series.

I want to agree with this but I just...can't right now. The 25th century feels stale already. It makes me sad but I don't want to see Seven, or Jack (especially Jack), or LaForges etc. I just lost interest.

Oh, theres is definitely a whole lot to explore in the 25th century. The question is..will they? Matalas said we would likely see Alexander again in Legacy...That's..... not what I would consider exploring new things. I don't need a show about the kids of the 90s characters.

I wish some of the Picard/Legacy fans would stop telling me about ratings as a bid to get me to like a Legacy series. If it works and Paramount makes it, great. If not, also great. Life continues.

The whole 'we are the only ship left in the fleet' is utter crap. What is the size of the UFP again? Trillions of beings and all the Starfleet ships are what was shown on screen to defend a thousands of light year empire. Please!:shifty:

The only two times that Starfleet has been implied or said to have thousands of ships is in DS9's Dominion War arc and Discovery during the Klingon War.

Every other time Starfleet has been implied to have 500 ships at the most. In BOBW the gathering, and loss, of 40 ships seemed horrific (which it would be if that was 10% of Starfleet wiped out in a single fight) and Picard had to dragnet repair yards and such for the Redemption fleet

With 309 ships present at Frontier day that is nearly 2/3rds of the fleet, which does constitute the bulk.

People want the same ol' same ol' Just read some messages in a generic television forum of people criticizing the first half of season 3 because the whole crew wasn't together yet and they only liked the season once Geordi appeared. Another responded how they stopped season 1 episode 1 halfway through because it didn't feel like TNG. These people are praising the reunion episodes of season 3. That is what a large portion of TNG wants. Considering this was pitched as a final TNG movie I think that's fine that it's what season 3 ended up being, but will those people (the majority it seems) be happy if Matalas were try something new with new characters?
