I never claimed DS9 was any good. Hated it. Hate every TNG movie. Like I said, it's been crap for far longer than it was ever good.

And eschaton is right--the 10 hour movie thing just doesn't work. What you end up with is a TNG movie quality turd with tons of filler.
You know that hate watching isn't good for you. Maybe not waste your time on it if you don't like it? Life's too short for time wasted, especially on whole series' worth of television or movies.

I could be wrong, but I think part of it was also just deciding that the Enterprise sets just didn't look good with movie lighting/film resolutions.
I think it was a combination of the two reasons.

They were also afraid that the TNG uniforms wouldn't look good on the big screen, so they borrowed ones from DS9. Yet they didn't have enough for everyone, so uniforms were mismatched, and sometimes the same character changed into a different one for no apparent reason.

Neither made much sense, lol.

It wasn’t a widescreen set, it was a TV screen set. They did lighting and additions for Gen, but the set was eight years old so they went with new — as well as making room for standing sets for Voyager. Film sets aren’t standing usually.

Money has a powerful way of bringing people back from the dead. If Paramount realizes how big of a deal a Star Trek Legacy show (with Shaw) would be the man they'd retcon that death in a heartbeat.

Phil Coulson in Agents of Shield being a prime example

I have no issue with Patrick Stewart not wanting to do a TNG reunion show. I just wanted a good story.

Exactly.

I also never wanted a TNG reunion show. I can't stand memberberries. They do nothing for me.
All this gushing about old ships...

Unfortunately, it seems you have to choose between pest and cholera when it comes to Star Trek stories.

- A show with nostalgic drivel and memberberries.
or
- Hypermeotional cry fest in space.

(or a mindless pew-pew action in a Jar Jar movie)

What they should have done is explored Picard’s other interest in archeology and done a story about that. Sci fi Indy if you will. That way you get him away Starfleet and it doesn’t go against his character.

In "The Gambit" Picard was on a lone archaeological tour. They could have used a similar starting point.

I didn't watch the first two seasons (because they were unwatchable). The only reason I watched this one was because I liked the original cast. Was a 100% nostalgia sideshow.

I mean, this requires accepting that these rogue Changelings are fundamentally stupid though. Because you can't negotiate with Borg. They will turn on you. With the Federation gone, the Borg would be in a much better position to target the Dominion and the Great Link.
Young & Dumb Changelings wouldn't be surprising at all.

How many Youthes make fatal mistakes after all with extremely arrogant judgement calls.

Yep, the bridges were built for TV ratios, which is why when they're mostly constructed 1:1 like the new Enterprise bridge for this episode, they seem small ..a 4th wall break by Riker/Jon Frakes pokes fun at it

Neither made much sense, lol.

That’s because they did make entirely new uniforms, then changed their mind as it made no sense, so mix and matched the two ‘current’ ones instead. It’s part of why the Geordi torture scenes were deleted — wrong uniform (the new ones) were used. The action figures were in the new uniform too.

IMAX basically is 1:1, and film stock really is square if it's open matte...

Yes I can agree with you here! There are some properly great episodes of Star Trek with a nice tight scifi plot (I think Yesterday's Enterprise is my favourite there). But trying to stretch that out over a whole season like s2 of Picard just doesn't work, you see too many joints and the tone shifts are jarring.

I really want to have Trek shift more to what Enterprise Season 4 did. Just have mini-arcs/miniseries length stories. Don't start out saying you need to fill up 10 episodes and work from there, come up with a story, and then write until it's done. Maybe stagger releases too, so you could have say a 5-episode arc, a pause, then a three parter, then a pause, two standalones, etc.

I feel like this season is much better paced than Seasons 1/2 of Picard (and any of the seasons of Discovery) but honestly it could have easily been 8, 7, or even 6 episodes without losing much.

I wish the TNG nostalgia did something for me, but couching it in Search for Spock vibes just made me remember how much I like the 'Stealing the Enterprise' scene and its setup and having the TNG crew re-enact it kind of did nothing for me. But I know people will love it. I think I'm just dead inside. lol
I don't like being made to feel dead inside by one of my favorite series. But if nostalgia is all people want then I guess they got what they wanted. I'm one of the few who loved S1 because it did new things with old characters.
I'm still in the 'this is fine' group I guess. It's still better than the first two seasons, but I'd still rate all the other new shows higher than these 9 episodes. Here's hoping the finale delivers on all the hype.
I really enjoyed the earlier episodes of S3 but when it got to "let's all stand around reminiscing about the good old days while the universe is on the verge of destruction (yet again), I think I may not bother with next week. I'll just read spoilers and wait for SNW.

Right. I believe they literally had Frakes wear Avery Brooks' uniform.

well, you aren’t missing much, but it will help with some of the stuff you are grumping about. S2 was awful, but at least has precendent for mysterious doors. Much of this season has been doing a good job of poking fun at or repairing daft ness from s1 and s2, but very subtly.

It's not that nostalgia is all people want. It's that the scumbags making this dreck are such creative and talent black holes that pathetic nostalgic callbacks are literally all they're capable of doing. ANYTHING new they do will be BAD. It's pathetic.

Murky.

I could be wrong, but I thought they changed their minds because they thought they looked bad?

It’s part of why they looked bad — they were like a mix of TOS movie maroons and TNG, and then they also realised they had two other Trek shows to worry about. The FC uniforms gave less of a problem I imagine.

I hear ya. But I’ve come this far. I’ll finish the voyage. Might as well at this point.
