Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x05 - "Imposters"

I have watched the episode a few more times. I think that it is definitely one of my favourite Star Trek episodes ever! The soundtrack was delightful!!!! I cannot wait to hear the Raffi/Worf fight music when the soundtrack is released.

• Why did Ro Laren say that Picard’s son was central to her investigation? This was never folllowed up on in the episode.
• The voice that says ‘Come find me’ and ‘connect with me’ to Jack seems to change. Some times it sounds like Vadic, sometimes a possible Borg Queen, sometimes Beverley Crusher. Subtitles from multiple sources labelling the voice differently all add to the confusion.
• Will we find out what Worf sacrificed for his mission?
• Ro asks what Picard knows about Frontier Day as if she was trying to find out information about it, in particular the security arrangements which she was not privy to.
• Ro discourages Picard from contacting Admiral Janeway or any other Admirals.
• I’m getting very strong Home Front/Paradise Lost and Star Trek VI conspiracy style vibes when Ro is on screen, I have spoken about this in more detail here. I’m also getting suspicious of Captain Shaw.
• Ro encourages Picard and the Titan to run - are they being set up and framed?
• I actually get the impression that Captain Shaw genuinely *hates* Picard from the way that he talks to him.
• Daystrome Institute station effects are beautiful.
• Why did the bomb have a timer? Why was it not instant? It gives too much time for Ro to potentially diffuse it and escape, or beam off back on to the Intrepid. Why did the Changelings even use a bomb, Ro could have been vaporized with a phaser.
• The Intrepid Changeling crew beam over to kidnap Jack Crusher who was central to Ro Laren’s investigation. Ro Laren was based on the Intrepid and may have beamed back on to this ship before the explosion. Could this have been an attempt by Laren and the Intrepid crew to retrieve the person ‘central’ to her investigation?
• Beverley asks Jack how he knew that all four attackers were Changelings, well, 4 people *did* beam on to the ship to kidnap him. Jack was defending himself, though perhaps he should have set his phaser to stun.

Defintiely one of my favourite Star Trek episodes in a very, very long time. I stand by my original grading of 10/10 even though I have no idea what is *really* going on.

What sort of fan consensus is this?

Huh? It’s not a fan consensus, it’s my personal view. I thought Broken Pieces was awful, I thought Nepenthe was never a great episode (outside of a few nice scenes) and I thought season 2 never “rallied” as you say.

I am not saying that Changelings could not have used a bomb, I am questioning the efficiency of this method as a way of assassinating Laren. In Homefront there was video footage of a Changeling bombing the Antwerp Conference, the Changeling also escaped but almost immediately before the explosion. My question is the amount of time that the Changeling’s gave before the bombs detonation in this instance. It allowed for too much convenience in regards to either an escape by Ro Laren if she had travelled towards the Titan to be beamed off of the shuttle, or as shown on screen so far for the the shuttle to be driven towards the Intrepid to either beam Ro back on to that ship, or for Ro to kamikaze the shuttle in to the Intrepid as the bomb detonates.

I am expecting a scene like this sometime later this season:

Yes.

Ro and Hugh - I see a sad pattern of killing old TNG characters off in a heroic fashion, especially when they spent decades rebuilding their wrecked lives (Hugh rehabilitating the XBs and Ro rejoining Starfleet, etc).

If they did die a hero's death I do not find it sad.

Also, I find it very TNG. Death comes for us all eventually.

Or makes it look like something the Titan did, which was the point. It all goes a bit wrong though, as presumably her security detail were supposed to end up back on Intrepid with a cover story cementing that. Another ‘Ro goes rogue’ story as a cover up.

But this method gave plenty of time for Ro to contact the Titan, or escape. The explosion would have been immediate if it was to look like an accident, as the events unfolded though there was plenty of time to give Ro options. By Ro contacting the Titan and confirming that there was a timed bomb planted by Changelings, Ro was implicating them as the culprits without any doubt, which may have been the intention.

I assumed that the shuttle was needed to create actual damage, but they were going to fake logs to suggest that The Titan fired on the Intrepid, similar to what happened in Star Trek VI.

Of course, after what happened in Star Trek VI, steps would have been taken to make sure that one ship's torpedoes could not be mistaken for a second ship's torpedoes, couldn't happen again, easily.

Do we know Ro Laren is Worf's handler? But anyway I thought Worf's handler denied access to Daystrom, not that they told them not to go. In fact they told them the opposite - find another way.

Also, if Laren is a conspirator, this would explain why they never used Major Kira in the role for Picard. Just like when they didn’t want to use Saavik in Star Trek VI.

Like a future Disneyland style "Downton Abbey Experience"? He affected the accent to work there and realised it was a hit with women and so he kept it

Well, it would be a conspiracy that goes up in to every sphere of power within Starfleet, including higher levels of command.

Also, when the Intrepid ‘comes about’ after the shuttlecraft explosion after temporarily losing flight control, it reminded me of Kronos One doing the same thing after the torpedo strikes as Kirk and the Enterprise were being set up. 4 minutes in to this clip:

But this could just be coincidence as Terry said he wanted the Intrepid to look like an angry dragon rearing it’s head in this particular CGI scene.

Worf’s line, I believe was, “Wait. Where’s Commander Ro?” Definitely the intention was that Worf and Raffi were being handled by Ro.
