He's been in semi-retirement for several years. He wouldn't just kick the Titan's current captain out (he's not TMP Kirk). So he took command of another ship that was available.
Considering the Zheng He is said to be the most advanced ship (sorry Enterprise), Riker likely kicked someone out...

Keep in mind the Enterprise hasn't always been "the most advanced ship"..

The E-A was decidedly older and clearly obsolete compared to the Excelsior Class, for example.

It was only in TNG when the Enterprise started being "the most advanced ship".

Hell even the E-E was eclipsed by the Prometheus class, for example.

He then points out he has hundreds of identical ships with him - it's meant to be a point about the ship class but it's badly written.

Riker: Right now I'm on the Bridge of the Toughest Fastest Most Powerful Ship that Starfleet has ever put into service and I've got a fleet of them at my back.

I really liked the Data and Picard scenes alot.I'm glad Soong was a good guy and not a villian. There were alot of great character moments in this episode. I'm so glad Seven of nine got rid of Narissa and got Justice for Hugh and the Xbs.I'm glad Sutra was s topped by Soong and didn't get away with her plans .I'm glad Soji wasn't killed in this finale. I'm glad Riker came back as a Captain was one of my Favorite scenes and was well acted.I really am glad Elnor got some good scenes in this episode. Narek just helped Picard's crew for his own purposes.I give this episode a 10

It's bluster. It doesn' t need to be fact check in universe.

He's dealing with the former Head of Starfleet intelligence so likely knows the capability. Anyway my point was really nothing Riker says say that his *specific* ship is special.

As a Star Trek fan, I've always loved to dive into the specs of ships. I would love to know why this new ship class is the most powerful ship in the fleet. I imagine it has ablative armor. Does it use transphasic torpedoes? How many phaser banks does it have or does it use something else? Trek nerds need to know.

None of the starships in Riker's armada had registry numbers on their hulls. I'm wondering...could some of them have been holographic projections to fool the Romulan attack fleet? Was Riker in on the plan and have holographic decoys planned?
This would be the most Riker thing ever - coming with one ship, but presenting the illusion of a fleet. It would also explain the lack of registry numbers, lack of "ship diversity", and the need for a quick departure to maintain the illusion (JIC). This may become headcanon.

She knew, she just didn't expect it.
And Will was really enjoying rubbing it in.
And he could have been reinforcing the above bluff.

With apologies to everyone who found this episode moving, I found the sentimentality so overdone it was ridiculous. Data's death scene almost had me, but then they laid it on so thick with the speech and the slo-mo and the music that I started laughing. Ditto Agnes and Rios and Elnor weeping uncontrollably after Picard died. Just ludicrous, and completely unearned by the preceding 9 episodes. I don't feel like any of these characters were close enough to warrant such a strong reaction. I barely even got the sense that they spent much meaningful time together at all. (You know who I would buy as weeping that hard? Laris and Zhaban, who had the sort of warm, lived-in relationship with him that would make me believe it. Too bad they disappeared from the show, never to be seen again this season.)
Elnor, at least, had a nearly lifelong adoration of Picard, and abandonment issues. Plus, absolute candor! Agnes seems like she would cry at the drop of a hat.

So the Enterprise is no longer the flagship of Starfleet? I can't begin to describe my disappointment over that.
I think the line was referring to the squadron/fleet and it being their flagship. Not necessarily Starfleet's flagship.

  • So the Borg and their "Artifact" had no real function in the story. I suspected it would not pay off, and I was right. Lame.
Annika and Elnor (and Starfleet) just left that great asset there? With Narek still at large? C'mon, man! This is my biggest nitpick of the episode.

For the first time in 72 years Picard has a normal, working heart.
The adventure saved his life. And no more artificial heart.
Still technically artificial, though.

The music at the end was way better than the dreary opening one. I hope they use that for season 2.
Yes, I loved the closing theme.

Didn't Agnes say way back that they downloaded the D/data in B4 because he couldn't handle it and was shutting down?
He couldn't handle the D?

Is Picard free of Locutus now?
That is an excellent question.

To everyone who is going off about "why couldn't they use the golem for Data"

It's very very simple....Spiner doesn't want to keep playing Data, even in an aged, adapting role.

Picard dealing with mortality and the unresolved guilt over Data was the primary driving force for the entire show. Both were resolved in the final episode of the season.

I'm positive that the only reason Spiner signed onto this was the assurance that it would be a closed ended story arc for Data.
Still, if Spiner wants to continue acting, I would have liked to see a young actor cast to portray new Data (with maybe Spiner as the voice) if only for the opportunity for Soong to become properly annoyed at Data's mannerisms. Spiner has to be itching to lash out a bit!

Overall, I like the episode, a lot.

Regarding not putting Data in the golem. It may have only been designed to hold/store biological brain patterns. Remember Jurati in "Remembrance" said that no one had been able to re-create Data. Dahj/Soji and the other synths are different from Data.

The former Commodore is perfectly placed to know full well that Riker is telling the truth.

The Romulans always cave when their bluff is called, they don't like to pick fights unless they are guaranteed to win.

Which is very much the opposite of the Klingons who love a famous last stand against insurmountable odds.

Riker's Squadron is full of up to date Starfleet Battlecruisers, purpose built warships that are built to go looking for trouble.

Its no contest and the Romulans know it.
