Hey, I just noticed in the Ferengi cop show obviously made in the 1970s, that the tenant's.pet is the "dog," from The Enemy Within.
Absolutely loved this one!
Any time we get DS9 used in an episode is a win, and we got TWO characters! It was great to see Rom and Leeta again. And damn, Rom really showed how savvy he is. He was always smarter than he appeared, and this definitely illustrated that aspect of Rom's character.
Did anyone else notice the dish of worms on the waiter's tray? It's exactly the same as the ones in TNG's "Conspiracy".
A lot of stories going on, but all were well used and didn't feel rushed.
Also glad to see the actual Rules of Acquisition book was used here. (Rule #8 is the one from the published book by Ira Steven Behr and Armin Shimerman.)
Tendi and Rutherford... they really should be together. I'm not one for having leads be together just because, but these two are just too cute together.
Mariner... at least she recognizes she has a problem. I'm sure we'll see her take baby steps to tackle it.
Boimler... wow, that was hilarious. LANDLORD COPS?! LMAO! His entire story was just hilarious.
Also, the Toronto looks VERY similar to a class of Starfleet ship from the FASA Federation Ship Recognition Manual. Chandley class, I think.
I probably would have given this a 9 because of all of the above plus a better look at Ferenginar (the rains are obviously still going on), but adding DS9 elements or characters always bumps things. So this gets a well deserved 10!

I'm hoping the UFP got over whatever hangups the Genesis device may have presented though and actually used it... although in fairness, it would likely be used in a given star system's moons etc. that are inhospitable generally to increase the amount of habitable planets (if there's only one).
Still, the UFP would likely have a massive amount of habitable M class planets within its 8000 Ly's domain, so technically, you don't HAVE to use the Genesis device (but its useful if you want to establish a base of operations in a remote star system with no habitable planets that may be strategically important).

I had to look up the title. From Memory Alpha: "The title derives from the name of the British comedy horror miniseries Garth Marenghi's Darkplace." Gadzooks I would never have gotten that if I was trying until the 2380's.
The same bowls and mealworm props were used for ferengi tubegrubs in DS9. I like to think that the parasites in Conspiracy were just eating ferengi food, and we just didn't have the lore context for it yet. The ferengi were still pretty mysterious and first contact hadn't 'officially' happened yet so picard not recognizing the food would make sense.
"Conspiracy" takes place after official first contact. The parasite episode is near the end of Season 1 and the Ferengi episodes are much earlier.
Not like that had food during their first contact.
Rom was playing dumb as part of the con.

Anyway, decent episode, and it was nice to see that the actors who originally played Rom and Neela reprise their roles. Plus, it's nice to see the evolution of the Ferengi/Federation relationship, from antagonists to friends. If the Ferengi do join the Federation, by how much? I seriously doubt that they would be willing to give up gold-pressed latinum in favor of the Federation's credit-based system.
I give this episode an 8. I never give an episode a 10, because nothing is perfectly executed, not even in real life. I scored the way I did because I am SO done with Mariner's inability to grow as a character. If there is a pay-off down the road, I might re-visit this episode and change the score on this episode a solid 9. But, we'll see...
