Joining Section 31 doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s gone evil.
No, but the maniacal laugher implies it.

Knowing Boilmer, he’s pretending. Probably some undercover mission for RikerNo, but the maniacal laugher implies it.
I thought it was a Red Dwarf reference.Did anyone else catch the SUPER deep cut joke about "going back in time and assassinating Kennedy"? That was a HUGE reference to Gene Roddenberry's pitch for Star Trek II. In his pitch, shortly after TMP the Klingons use the Guardian of Forever to prevent Kennedy's assassination, which like with Edith Keeler, results in the world ending and the Federation never forming for...reasons? Anywho, the crew of the refit Enterprise follow the Klingons back to prevent any changes in the timeline, and Spock ends up being the guy who shot Kennedy. I'm sure the studio looked at him after that pitch and said, "...naw, we're gonna probably not gonna do that." BUT STILL, the fact that this movie pitch is referenced 40 years later is actually insanely cool, and shows just how big of fans the writers are.![]()
The person who woke Boimler up threatened to put him down summarily, if he didn't toe the line pronto. I'd say we're supposed to get the vibe that Section 31 is evil, and by extension, he is.Joining Section 31 doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s gone evil.
Maybe it's a double agent situation and he's helping weed out something/someone nefarious within Section 31?I mean, I'd actually like it if William is evil and he's...incredibly bad at it.
A stab at Disco?![]()
Did you mean "jab"? In colloquial English "taking a stab" means giving it a try.Absolutely a stab at Disco!![]()

I wonder when “serious” Trek will refer to something LDS established.
Well since Mariner and Boilmer will both be appearing on an episode of STRANGE NEW WORLDS, I guess that will be the time.
I can see that working (from a dramatic perspective, for this show). They fancy themselves as putting the needs of the many before the needs of the few, even if it means doing things which in and of themselves would be considered evil.
Like, doing In The Pale Moonlight things as their goto tactic.
