I wish (what can I say- I'm obsessed) they would have devoted more time to the struggle that a Vulcan who has spent her entire life controlling her feelings has finding a way to communicate with a species that communicates via emotions. I feel like T'Rina is in an utter panic, knowing she doesn't have the emotional skill set to take a more active part in the non/ mathematical parts of the messages. I feel like the script's focusing more on how she's struggling with her attraction to Saru than her frustration at how she's able to save her own planet.

Why not both? ;)

(IE - IDK, I think her reaction is a result of everything that's going on. I'll also say, I really liked when Burnham shared her insight with Saru about how Vulcans behave in public to those they do care about emotionally.)

He does come off as a lot like Soran. Probably would never have hurt a fly before the disaster that landed him in Emerald Chain captivity. Willing to ruin whole sectors of space just to achieve his goal. Not really evil but warped by his goal into doing whatever it takes to achieve those ends.

Mild prediction. Earth and Ni’Var (Vulcan) are threatened. Burnham is the arbiter of planetary disputes in the Federation. Earth is not a member. For some reason they will have to choose which one to save. She will have to save the Federation member. Earth is hammered.
If they actually had the guts to go through with this that would be impressive.

Of course, the boldness of doing that would all be undone by the next season's arc of Burnham and Discovery going rogue from the Federation and violating the Temporal Accords to travel back in time to save Earth.

But not Kwaijon, even if Book is still around. It won't even be mentioned.

It's interesting how my opinion differs from the prevailing one. While I like them all, I prefer DSC Seasons 1 and 4 over DSC Seasons 2 and 3. But the seasons I like less are the ones that people like more. And vice versa.

Too early to say where I fall on the PIC side of things.

I look forward to seeing how Discovery's seasons are ranked ten years down the line. Some pretty surprising stuff can happen with Star Trek outlooks over time.

Mind you, I don't look forward to it nearly enough to want to skip ten years of my life to find out. No one slingshot me around a star, I don't care that much.

I have come to the conclusion that my opinion will never line up with the prevailing one. I definitely enjoyed Season 1 the most, and there have been bright spots in 2-4. 4 I am reserving judgement because it isn't over. I think I will like it a bit more when I can watch it through.

€5 says nothing will happen to Book; he'll be in the next season as if nothing happened and none of the shit he did this season will ever be brought up, except twisted to paint him in a sympathetic light.

If nothing happens, then it better be for a Damn Good Reason.

Otherwise, the bashers of the show and I will be forming a Temporary Alliance.

I am with you. Hard to say for sure until I see the finish. S2 is my least favorite despite the first half being my favorite half-season. In halves:

1. S2 1st half
2. S1 1st half
3. S4 2nd half
.........
8. S2 2nd half

The rest is kinda jumbled.

DSC's the only instance where I've had a sharp disagreement with what looks like the consensus.

Way, way, way back, I disagreed with people about TMP. I liked it and most people didn't. But slowly, over time, people seem to have warmed up to that film.

Which...

... gives me hope for how Season 4 might eventually be viewed.

unlikely. Periodic testing is mandatory, as are face masks unless you are on screen and a certain level of isolation from outside world, otherwise everything works as before.

Perhaps now, but not when they were filming. There were articles explaining that many scenes involved pairing up the actors to isolate them from each other. The soap operas were doing that, too.

My experience, too.

This thread has me wondering, what are the consensus opinions about the other series?

TOS. For me, S1 of TOS is the best single season in Trek history. S2 is not as good and S3 is bottom.

TAS. S1.

TNG. Hard to say, but definitely between S3- S5. The middle 3 all oustanding. S1 has to be bottom. S6 or S2 next best. S7 was uneven but went out on a super high note.

DS9. I did not watch them as they came out, so my view is shakier. It did not start as slowly as TNG, but the sweet spot has to be S4-S6. I'd go S6 here.

VOY. Gotta be S4, right? Maybe S5?

ENT. I don't like the Temporal Cold War stuff, but gotta be S3 or S4.

Am I close?

TOS: I think the third season is underrated but I still like the first two better overall. --> Mostly fits consensus.

TOS Movies:
I like all of them (including TFF), but TWOK is my favorite and I do still prefer the even-numbered ones to the odd-numbered ones. --> Mostly fits consensus.

TNG:
I think Seasons 3-6 are better than Seasons 1, 2, and 7. --> Fits consensus.

TNG Movies:
I think First Contact is the only one that's good. --> Fits consensus.

DS9:
While I think Season 2 is underrated, overall I think Seasons 4-7 are better than Seaosns 1-3. --> Fits consensus.

VOY:
I think the series has ups-and-downs, B&B were getting long-in-tooth, and Seven was the best addition. I didn't miss the Kazon when they were left behind. --> Fits consensus.

ENT:
My least favorite of the Star Trek series but, even though I think Season 3 is overrated, I still found that Season 2 was the worst and Season 4 was the best. --> Mostly fits consensus.

Kelvin Films:
I like the 2009 Film and Beyond better than Into Darkness. --> Fits consensus.

EDITED TO ADD:
Like I've said. In over 30 years of being a fan, Discovery is the first time I've disagreed with fandom-at-large in a way that's serious.

"Stormy Weather", "But to Connect", "The Galactic Barrier", and "Species 10-C" fit what I think of as Star Trek and what I think it should be better than any other Star Trek that's come out in literally decades. And I can't believe the opinion of Season 4 is as low as it is. Well, actually I can believe it, but this season has been more Star Trek than Star Trek and the reaction to it is so telling that it's ridiculous. Sure there are some spots where I think it could've been better, but the positives far outweigh the negatives, at least in my opinion.

Depending on how the season ends, it might actually replace Season 1 as my favorite.
