Has Book always had that?
Not four episodes ago.
I love the consistency of Star Trek Discovery's writing.
- We can't jump while cloaked!
Six months later:
- Yes, we can!

400+ years later and we still use weapons that use a small explosive charge to propel a small piece of metal at high velocity to kill someone...why? Because it still works...![]()
That's some well researched nitpicking, but I do have some ways to possibly explain that.
Book's ship might have more security measures now because he's got a dude on board adding new security measures. And Discovery's just gone through another major overhaul, this time after Starfleet's had time to study and improve upon the spore drive.
I would imagine, especially in light of recent events. Book would be updating that security measure. Much in the same way that I would not expect SF to update their security measures. That's some well researched nitpicking, but I do have some ways to possibly explain that.

please no. I understand where are you coming from, but Romulus andKelvin Vulcan were depressing enough, I really don’t want to see that happen again. It needs to obliterate a known Federation homeworld. Tellar Prime. Denobula. Something.
Because Book's planet, while tragic in-story, had almost no emotional connection for the audience.
perhaps maintaining a field like that on a larger ship is not viable.I'm confused... Why does Book's tiny little ship have anti-transporter fields but the big super advanced starfleet vessels don't?

Probably not consistently. It is kind like how O'Brien was able to find variable phases in the 23rd Century Enterprises sensors and shields to decloak, beam them over, and recloak. Creating a larger field means either more power, or overlapping emitters, which may create gaps.perhaps maintaining a field like that on a larger ship is not viable.
We’ve seen stagnant technology in Star Trek before, though: the 24th century isn’t that much more advanced than the 23rd, as even pointed out in the show by Geordi. Just because technology is improving exponentially now it doesn’t mean this growth couldn’t slow down again at a certain point. We are at a proverbial 'beginning' of changing every aspect we are familiar with... so, this kind of comparison wouldn't work for Trek and UFP which is a collection of FTL capable societies that have been experiencing fast technological and scientific breakthroughs on a continuous basis.
true. But perhaps transporter technology improved more than scattering one. We've seen that in the 24th century that wasn't a problem on latger ships. And technology was supposed to advance radically by this era... so its probably just lazy writing to fit the drama

you didn’t.Did I miss why they couldn’t just jump outside of the galactic barrier and knock on the door of 10C?
