Hang on there now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it did turn hot. The first two episodes of season 4 served to wrap up the TCW arc (very poorly) by having it become a full blown war. Remember Daniels was all messed up and said that the war was no longer a cold one. Then Daniels comes back at the end to tell Archer the war is coming to an end.
Even the trailers/promos called it a time war if I remember correctly.

"The Time War is now. Star Trek: Enterprise"

So I take it CBS never sued when BBC opened their Doctor Who show, conveniently right after Enterprise ended, with a Time War? :guffaw:
Somebody ask Russel T Davis, I remember in a commentary for The last of the Time Lords he said he stole the one year later jump idea from Battlestar Galactica but wasn't worried about anyone noticing because nobody was watching BSG at that time. Maybe he thought the same with Enterprise.

The disintegration effect looked similar to when Seven killed Bejeweled
The Federation must have accidentally destroyed stun settings along with the great time travel destruction.

Book: Time travelers were once considered mortal enemies of the Federation.

Mirror Georgiou: Time travelers? Mortal enemies of the Federation?

Book: They were a temporal menace, a plague to be wiped out.

Mirror Georgiou: Wiped out? What are you saying?

Book: Hundreds of Starfleet officers were sent to track them down throughout the timestream. An armada obliterated all time travelers and their timeships. By the end of the 31st century they had been eradicated.

Mirror Georgiou: Another glorious chapter of Federation history. Tell me, do they still make speeches about the great time traveler hunt?

A bunch of really crappy dialogue, but a setup for a decent story. A nice opener. Let’s hope for a smaller in scope story this season. I’m pretty over this “the entirety of sentient life in the galaxy is on the line!” stuff that was in season 2 and season 1 of Picard.

A basic mystery arch where they try to figure out what happened and make some sense of the new political landscape and tech could be a very interesting season all by itself. “Discovery”, indeed. Cautiously optimistic from someone who mostly hated season 1 and 2 both.

And if the self destruction of Dilithium was what caused the burn, wouldn't ships that use singularity drives, for example the Romulans, be the dominating force in the galaxy?

Despite all the hype about the Federation not needing money, the dilithium barons obviously had a monopoly between the 22nd and 31st century, and swept all other power sources under the rug. Maybe this is supposed to be an analogy to our real world dependence on oil despite other tech available.

I loved each and every second of that. I think it was brilliant in the way that we as an audience are introduced to this new world, and we're seeing it through Michael's eyes. I don't really care that so many don't feel Sonequa or her character, I've always loved her, as a performer and as Michael Burnham.

There were just so many great details in this, I look foreward seeing it at least two times more, just to catch everything. Just some random thoughts:
- Book's ship is just one of the coolest things I've ever seen... inside and out.
- The visuals are just crazy, absolute movie quality...
- FINALLY a reference to the Temporal Cold War.... Now if we ever get to find out who 'future guy' was even better, but for now I'm good!

Really looking foreward to next week..! I'm gonna miss Lower Decks, but I'm also really, really glad to be back in the DSC-universe. It's been a rocky road for the series (with two soft reboots in a row), but in the end, I think that having two seasons in the past will make it just so very special and large in scope.

We know he was watching Enterprise, because he approached them at some point about making a crossover special with Doctor Who.

However, the idea of a "time war" predates both series, of course, and a Great Time War (the War in Heaven) was already occurring in Doctor Who novels before Enterprise, some of which was written by Davies himself. It's very likely that Davies just took the idea from the novels (although he always denied this) rather than other shows themselves.

Given when they were looking for Discovery at the station, you'd think they would have tried contacting the to unidentified Federation starships that were in range.

I thought about that, but I wondered if maybe they were just century-old commandeered Starfleet vessels.

good start although the reality is that states die, it is as if we are now trying to recreate the Roman Empire or the Austo-Hungarian Empire or USSR or any other state that no longer exists I don't like fanaticism and Burnham's nationalism by the federation was seen as fanaticism

You try shooting while running and being accurate. Its not like they were firing LMGs and had the benefit of flooding the field with bullets.

Ah: a failure of imagination or a arms treaty there. From a tactical perspective, I would much rather have a rapid fire phaser to pepper an area with 500 angles/beams per minute (even if weaker) than the 6 shots per minute star trek weapons are good for shooting.

Yeah, it's like cloning dinosaurs.

Given that Starfleet isn't a totally military outfit it makes sense that some weapon designs would be regarded as unnecessary. Recall that much of Starfleet's tech for a while was bigger means better. The Defiant was the one exception to the rule.
