Have they announced the drop time yet? Is it going to be "Wednesday Night" at Midnight like PIC and LD or like the first two seasons and Thurs at eight?

Oh geez. I'm so used to the PIC and LD style now that I forgot there's a chance DISCO remains static at 8PM.

Well, time for the main event. Discovery! I'll be posting a Monday or Tuesday roundup of reaction, directly from my Discovery group as I have been for the first 2 seasons. It goes over weekly episode critical ratings, fan ratings, Parrot numbers from the previous week, etc. as well as my own. Should be enlightening and fun!

    Onwards and upwards!

3AM which means I won't see it till Thursday night...I do kind of wish they'd drop it at 8pm like they used to. I'm going to make a concerted effort to watch it at night and not sneak a peak if I wake up in the early AM.

It's also going to be the first DSC premiere I haven't had a watch party or been to the premiere in person. :(

Here's a secret: it doesn't really drop at 3:00am. More like just after 2:00am.

A month or two ago, I would've been able watch it at 2:00am without a problem. But now I'm back to a pre-Covid work schedule again. So now it's not such a good idea.

But you know me. "Not such a good idea" doesn't mean I won't try. ;)

I enjoyed the fact that CBS All Access initially dropped new Star Trek stuff at "primetime." It was... nostalgic, I guess. But it's not how much streaming services work. I've come to accept that the dream is dead, lol.

I imagine it is going to look a ton like the 23rd/24th century, with some political pieces moved around.

It'll be just different enough so that it feels like another time but not so different that it looks like a completely different series.

It won't look as different as it could've and should be. Because even now that would mean a complete and total overhaul that they won't have a budget for. Such is the reality of television production. Knowing this, I'll settle for "just different enough". When going this far into the future, it's too easy to have wildly unrealistic expectations.

EDIT: Back in the '80s, the last time Star Trek jumped forward to a brand-new time period, TNG didn't look much different from the TOS Movies. The main bridge looked very different, and the Galaxy Class Starship exterior design obviously looked very different, but everything else in TNG (minus the uniforms) would've looked right at home in the films at the time.

Do you have any filling in the croissant? Ham and cheese is my go to.

Time progression in Trek has always been somewhat... token. It can be any period across two hundred years, but we're going to be running around in starships set up like old Earth naval vessels and carrying a version of a phaser, tricorder and communicator. The ship will also fire phasers and torpedoes although we might tweak the names slightly. It's basically all the same stuff with some small window dressings changed. I'll be interested to see whether this new future of the future of the future is any different to that.

I'm right at the point where my excitement for the new episode is finally starting to outweigh my socially-isolating-while-working-from-home burnout. I guess it's time to buy some snacks for the big event and watch Burnham's first hours in the future to the backdrop of gorgeous Iceland. I really hope she bumps into either Galen Erso as he's hiding from Krennic, or maybe into a Night's Watch patrol, some wildlings and giants...

Ahem. Moving on. It can't come soon enough.
