So what... Did the Kelpians genocide the Ba'ul?

Because that's the only way I could see them getting Ba'ul ships given the political climate of the planet when Discovery left.
1 Kelpien in 1 craft? That does not add up to genocide. The Ba'ul were xenophobic, so I doubt they wanted to make the trip to help non-natives, especially the ones who messed up their whole balance of power. But it's nice that you're on their side.

I'd also add that the purpose of the door wasn't that it would be able to necessarily stop a blast, but rather redirect it away from the more sensitive areas of the ship. The blast door "managed" the blast to minimize the damage to critical areas of the ship. And, we saw in the episode that the blast did take a chunk out of the ship but it was directed outwards and away from the bridge. I'd also assume that the physical door was assisted by a forcefield.

So, redirecting the blast rather than containing/stopping the blast. That's a lot more doable.

They also did say that the torpedo would take out *half* the ship if the door didn't go down, so it was not like they were threatened with being totally vaporized, and implies that as a whole, the Enterprise is pretty tough even when it comes to photon torpedoes blowing up inside it.

Too bad the entire ship isnt made out of the same material the BLAST door is made of
Again, as I mentioned, it's one thing to redirect a blast but an entirely different matter to contain it completely. The blast door simply redirected the blast away from more sensitive areas of the ship, such as the bridge.

For example, if you put a charge in a cannon, the cannon isn't damaged because the blast has an outward direction to go. The blast takes the path of least resistance. However, if you sealed the charge up using the same material as the cannon, it's blown to smithereens.

Don't forget that military contracts are often awarded to the lowest bidder.

There's that plus they want to direct the damage away from certain areas rather than just let the blast go uncontrolled.. Hence, the blast doors. Redirect the blast outwards to space where it avoids the bridge and also it's going more directly to space rather than inward through the ship. Matches what we saw of the damage on the screen, mostly outward focused.

Did they even mention any options beyond disarming it? Like having a shuttle pull it out of the Enterprise?
I'd imagine that with all the shuttles, drones, and larger ships flying around shooting things, a relatively stationary shuttle trying to do a precision maneuver like that would be a sitting duck!

There was more then one Kelpian there...

Also you're missing the point that the Ba'ul, as portrayed in the show, wouldn't have wanted to help or been willing to give the Kelpians their technology. Which means the only way the Kelpians could be there, is if they somehow killed the Ba'ul and took their stuff.

Reminds me of that game from "Office Space" called Jump to Conclusions. I'll go with "Think Again."

Or they found a bunker full of ba'ul ships and learned to fly them. Or maybe Tyler negotiated with them who knows. I do agree though that the kelpiens showing stretched my suspension of disbelief and warranted a deeper explanation

What on Earth does “fight like a Kelpian” mean? Runaway and hide? Or just surrender and get eaten?

Cause indigestion or constipation perhaps? Maybe farts? Saru's Revenge?

I'm going to use "Fought Like a Kelpian" a lot in the coming years I think. The term needs to become a thing. in fact, how has it not already become a thing?

Still doesn't add up to genocide. They could've captured some as well and took their stuff.
At which point the Ba'ul that weren't captured would press a button and remotely blow up all the ships the Kelpians captured.

Because a frightened paranoid isolationist species isn't going to let the race that drove them to xenophobia in the first place get their hands on WMDs. (Which any warp capable starship is.)

Unless the Kelpians magically learned both 23rd century programing and 23rd century engineering in the month or so since Discovery was there that would just result in the Ba'ul hitting the ships remote self destruct.

And unless the Ba'ul have super warp drives those ships would have had to have left Kaminar weeks ago to encounter the Klingons and arrive at Xahea when they did.

stuff from way above:

Burnham's mom spent a lot of time there, I'm not so sure that is where the conflict will come from.
At this point, I think the conflict will come from whatever fate has befallen the Federation by then.

I still think that Craft and his "War" is what the Discovery crew are going to be dropped into.
as discovery will be abandoned for ... how long again?

... that would be a rather long war

Anyone else wonder where and how Section 31 got such a huge fleet of ships when Starfleet was decimated by the war?

they started the war with 105

my only issue with the torpedo was the sheer size of it.
In one scene we see it looking more like a JJprise Kahn torpedo leaving the section 31 ship. Next we see it impacting the primary hull and sticking out. It appears to be larger than even the bridge module. (Even though we just saw Ariams funeral pod and other torpedo housing that all appear consistent with previous iterations).
Next we see It Number one and the Admiral are looking at it and it appears normal size. Then Burnham sees it and again its gigantic sticking out out the hull

On a completely unrelated subject, I found the Mirror Universe's Method of execution (beamed into space) to be inconsistently merciful considering their obsession with inflicting a maximum of pain. I mean when you're exposed to the vacuum of space, you die in a matter of seconds, between 15 and 20, according to a documentary I saw that was about 2001 (you know the astronaut that had to spend several seconds in a vacuum because the computer had tricked him into going outside without his helmet).

So many people to punish, so few agony booths ... ach, just beam 'em.
