Saru's sister arriving in the Ba'ul ship was meant to signify that the two races had come together in cooperation, surely. The timescale is absolutely insane, where Kelpiens (or at least one) have been trained to pilot Ba'ul ships in a matter of a couple months at most and the long history of conflict has been put aside, but the intention of the scene seemed clear to me.

Maybe the Federation sent diplomatic aid over to smooth things over. Ambassador Fox or some other similar diplomatic idiot legend.

Didn't get the vibe at all. If anything I guessed Kelpians took over their world and Ba'ul are their slaves now. Of course we'll never get to find out, unless in 32nd century there are still some historical records about this period. I sure hope Kelpians do not become the Big Bad of 32nd century and Saru has to pick his people and his ship.

The production quality of this show is off the chart. I still think the writing let's it down. There are many times where I go "this is not making any sense" like when a quarter of the Enterprise Saucer gets blown up by the Torpedo but Pike who was right next to it with a view survives.
The way they try to tie things up with the writing here comes off as uninspired and I feel the jump to the 33rd century is just their way of taking canon heat off of themselves. But the problems are still going to remain when you have hokey ideas such as time crystals and answering all the big mysteries and plot points with time travel did it.

Anyway, good episode despite my brain interrupting my viewing.

Unlike Voyager, this will be a limited exercise (about one season of 14 or so episodes, probably), and will be followed up by some new situation for Season 4 (probably with them returning and then having to work as underground agents because they're officially dead. Or maybe turn into Sliders or something).

they are section 31 - who's better for that than dead guys?

Pike had offered to negotiate between them and stated they were hanging around Kaminar before they even investigated the time swirly. Perhaps he was the one that handled the negotiation.

Same as I didnt believe Anson Mounts claims that he is now unemployed, its not the sort of thing actors say and smells like a cover up to me to keep the show a secret until they are ready to reveal it.

take him literally. he said he's now unemployed. did he say that's still the case in 3 months (or whenever they would start shooting star trek: beep beep)?

i'm so proud of me - i not only managed to not watch the first part but i also did not look in any pertinent thread so that i could watch both parts back to back

the big question now is will i read those threads or not?
read this one but i'll skip last week's

There was more then one Kelpian there...

Also you're missing the point that the Ba'ul, as portrayed in the show, wouldn't have wanted to help or been willing to give the Kelpians their technology. Which means the only way the Kelpians could be there, is if they somehow killed the Ba'ul and took their stuff.
Or are they could have started a dialogue and Baul decided (assuming they believed all sentient life was in trouble including themselves) to let the Kelpians take the risk of fighting for them.

they are xenophob - i guess they see it as a hoax to penetrate their defenses

If Saru is any indication, Kelpiens are incredibly fast learners. Considering Saru was able to learn how to reconstitute Ba'ul technology to create a subspace transmitter, he was also able to learn 90 Federation languages. I feel like learning how to pilot a Ba'ul ighter would be child's play for the Kelpiens

This point is moot. Apparently, it's been confirmed that "Yeoman Colt" (Nicole Dickinson) is the blueshirt with a red spiky alien face. Whatever this means is beyond my paygrade.
Which makes absolutely no sense! The Talosians kidnapped Colt to be a potential mate for Pike in order to propagate his species -- which won't work if the female part of the equation is a red, spiky-faced alien! Why they would make this kind of ridiculous change when the Enterprise crew will be gone at the end of the season anyway is beyond me. I suppose if there is a Pike spin-off at some point, they could recast the role properly, seen as how the alien woman was never addressed on screen as Colt (or by any name for that matter).

as far as star trek: discovery is concerned this is yeoman c. m. colt (link leads to memory alpha)

... btw, commander nhan's status is (also according to memory alpha) pressumed dead but that's the same for the rest of the crew

The battles are visually like Battlestar Galactica now.
