Well they need to speak to an audience that might need to be reminded what the Kelvin is. This is true even more so when there is the Kelvin timeline.

1. The ganglia have to be cut out before they fall off to preserve flavour.
2. The Ganglia fall out, and then the Ba'al have no use for delicious Kelpians, and maybe they don't "dispose" of the remainder Kelpiens to death?
3. The Ba'al are adult Kelpiens who have lost their threat ganglia. The process of raising the Kelpiens in "private seclusion" before their minds mature after they've stopped being constantly pummelled by threat ganglia hormones, is to protect the Kelpiens early development as "children".

Doug Jones knocked it out of the park with that episode, logically I should have known that he wouldn't die. But he really sold it and he really brought the best out of Sonequa Martin-Green. Saru and Michael really have a complicated backstory and I love how we've gotten to see it develop. I'm looking forward to see how this grows as the show goes on. His newfound loss of fear and desire to help his people will be interesting to see unfold as well.
The sphere plot was a nice twist on the Trek trope of the weird space thingy that traps the ship and how the mystery was solved through empathy. Star Trek has always been more about actually trying to understand the creature and learning what it wants instead of shooting first and asking questions later. Plus it tied into Saru's desire to tell his story after he died which was exactly what the sphere was trying to do by using Saru.
The subplot with Tilly was good, I really like the relationship that's developing between her and Stamets. Them singing Space Odyssey together was really sweet and I love that they picked it because its one of my favorite songs. All of them tripping at the end was accurate based on my experiences.
I'm guessing that this is going to end up explaining why the spore drive didn't work out. It's either somehow harming the network which is a single sentient entity or multiple entities. It's interesting that this does sort of tie into some of the ideas formulated by Terrance McKenna who was an early advocate of hallucinogenic mushrooms. He was convinced that fungi wasn't native to Earth and were perhaps a form of intelligence, but one on a very different level than us. He claimed that it could possibly communicate with us when ingested which would explain why many who do trip on mushrooms seem to experience very similar things down to the same visuals. They also may have been responsible for the quick development of the brains of early human species. It's a bit off the wall, but I've found it interesting to read about.
Pike ordering that the holographic communication ripped out of the Enterprise was a fun detail.

Another solid 10. with last weeks episode, Brother and this week, Season 2 is shaping up exceptionally well. It's just a pity episode 2 happend
Considering this is part of an arc I am guessing they will find something about the red angels in the information received from the sphere.

An observation here - we are shown two different flight paths for Spock's shuttle into the Beta Quadrant. I am assuming that the path seen in the bridge consoles is the correct one. In that version, Spock's flight path takes him near Starbase 152. This base was mentioned in "Tin Man", as the place where the Enterprise-D goes for repairs after its mission to Beta Stromgren.

An absolute 9 for me. Really enjoyed that episode. This was Trek , through and through. Some excellent character moments, especially between Michael/Saru, and Tilly/Stamets. Doug Jones and SMG knocked it out of the park, performance wise. Nice use of the crew ensemble, some nice humour (loved the tower of Babel Universal Translator malfunction!), just an all round great character piece. With a TNG esque contact with an organic space life form.
Big improvement, for me, over last week's episode, which felt like a season 1 leftover IMO.
My only complaint , really, is not enough Number 1. Really good episode

I remember seeing "Wolof" cited in the captions as one of the languages spoken in last night's episode.

and the tower of Babel voice over was in Hebrew.
They missed a great opportunity here. When the ganglia fell off and the scene was finished, they could have shown Burnham leaving the room, stopping at the door, look back at a resting Saru, smile and then as she turns toward the door she could have popped the ganglia in her mouth and start chewing as she exited.
God damn was that good. I'm just ecstatic to have a weekly Trek series that I'm enjoying on this level. I'm not sure what to add beyond what's already been said.
I do hope the loss of the ganglia is an indication of Saru's ascending to captain. I look forward to seeing how he copes with the loss of fear, and trying to gauge dangerous situations and not get too cocky. Pike has made a great presence in this second season, but I'm already starting to feel ready to say farewell to his character after this season for Saru to take command.

Total 9. And would have been just for the scene with "Space Oddity." Paul and Tilly have had a great big brother/little sister relationship, and that was just the best expression of it. What really sold it was that Paul was obviously scared too, but he was trying to hold it together for her.
And he and Reno make great frenemies. I was so happy to see her (and Nhan) back. And Dr. Pollard is quickly becoming a favorite as well.
