My bullshit off the top of my head answer:

Humans had secretly been expecting the Vulcan return ever since the Carbon Creek incident of 1957, which resulted in the United Nations of Terra capturing a Vulcan spy named Mestral and interrogating him until they could extract as much information about Vulcan as possible, including details about their language, technology, and society. The next time they returned, they vowed to be prepared.

That chance came in 2063, when Terran military scientist Zefram Cochrane, knowing that the Vulcans made contact with fledgling warp capable cultures, built the ISS Phoenix with the help of that reverse engineered Vulcan knowledge, and launched during one of the rare sweeps the Vulcans made through Sector 001 according to Mestral. The Vulcans, detecting the launch, landed at the site in the spirit of peace and exploration, and were quickly overwhelmed by a force of Terran commandos posing as disheveled refugees. Even with their advanced technology, the small Vulcan crew was no match for the Terran element of surprise and foreknowledge of what to expect.

Using the Vulcan ship to further refine their warp technology, the United Terran Space Probe Agency launches the Friendship One Probe in 2067 to Vulcan with a message of peace, saying that they have their missing crew alive and well. Little did the Vulcans know that the probe actually housed a genetically targeted biological weapon reverse engineered from those prisoners that would spread among the Vulcan population and kill them en masse. The virus was slow acting so its source was not immediately apparent and it was able to spread across the entire planet before becoming symptomatic. Some Vulcans suspected the Terrans but there was no proof until it was too late.

What remaining survivors there were among the Vulcans were subjugated by the follow-on ISS Conestoga troop transport landing Terran Marines and ground vehicles on Vulcan. Some Vulcan ships got away and formed a rebel force, but the Terrans now had a small fleet of their own vessels outfitted with Vulcan derived warp drives and weapons to hold them off while the Empire gained strength and conquered more territory.

That's a better explanation than the creators likely had in mind when they wrote it.

When normal people see a wart on an actor in a TV show or movie they don't prattle on about it like it's world hunger or an unjust war. But, you know, to each their own.

...When was the last time you saw a wart on an actor in a TV show?

I'm actually wondering if the makeup department isn't deliberately adding those on Wiseman's face for the very same reason they pour grease on the hair of people playing nerds. It's just not Hollywood to let warts be.

I mean, her press photos show a couple. Her role photos show fewer. And the overall makeup in DSC is maximally unflattering, on purpose.

You may wish to re-watch. Sisko was a believeable as a member of the Terran resistance not the Terran empire. The empire at that stage was run by the Klingons, Cardassians and others, with worf being emporer.
I realize that, but the point is that he was able to fit in the wacky and deadly Mirror Universe, not so much that he could fit in a particular Empire within it that no longer existed.

Ok, that just a ride all right!! Loved every minute of it, although seeing a certain necksnap...... Holy fuck.....

I'm glad we have all these Adonises, these paragons of male perfection here to comment on another person's looks. I mean, they'd only do that if they were speaking from their own lofty perch of gorgeousness, right?

Perhaps they'd like to post some pics, that we might bask in their radiance?

No?

Funny that.

If you're going to make shallow remarks about an actress's appearance then you should be prepared to get some pushback on it and just take it without getting indignant. The fact that you keep arguing with anyone who calls you on it makes me think that you crave the conflict and deliberately set out to provoke those reactions in the first place, which is trolling. Knock it off. Or, better yet, don't make the shallow remarks at all!

It's now part of an agenda and redefining beauty standards (as if there's one objective standard to uphold) to show normal looking people with normal flaws or differences in appearance in Trek? Good grief.

- It wasn't all women in charge. The captain of the ship that first rescued Discovery and the captain of the Shenzhou before Burnham reclaimed her position were men, so precisely the same number of ships featured in the episode were commanded by men and women (actually one more for men if you count Lorca commanding the MU Buran originally). But who's counting?
- What is wrong with being a social justice warrior? What kind of person is opposed to social justice? And what does making the captain of a ship on a fictional TV show a woman have to do with fighting for social justice in anything but the most superficial way? Seems like a stupid thing for someone to complain about.
- Please tell me which part of canon specifies that Mirror Universe uniforms have to feature bare midriffs for women in 2256? The only canon I'm aware of on the issue is that uniform styles change quite frequently.
- You clearly don't know what political correctness actually means. Please don't use words you don't know.
- I would define a snowflake as someone who moans (and we know how much you hate moaning) about the alleged declining male influence in fictional military fleets, how the uniforms aren't sexy enough and violate the precious canon even though they don't, who can't adapt to changing social developments so they irrationally lash out of them, and who falsely paint themselves the victim.

Anyway, all that being said, cut the SJW, political correctness, and snowflake crap or take it to 4Chan or Reddit or somewhere where you'll find a more receptive audience.

ETA: I missed that cultcross already commented on this before me.

It wasn’t all women in charge, yes, but the guy in charge of the Shinzo was only there until the better female came back to get her ship back and beat the man in combat. The young inexperienced Tilly was captain by being better than men. I have problem with social justice when it take something good and makes it worse. Canon may not be explicit in Terrence female dress code but all past episodes show an undeniable pattern of uniform that was ignored I believe because of modern day hypersensitivity.
Someone who is politically correct believes that language and actions that could be offensive to others especially those relating to sex and race, should be avoided. Avoiding sexy outfits to not offend certain vocal minorities is political correctness. I’m not moaning by the way....

Shakes head in wonder.....

God forbid a TV show whose basis from the inception has involved female empowerment would avoid the temptation to label a character by manipulating her physical appearance and how closely she conforms to an artificial image of perfection

In the same show that only a few weeks ago was under fire for daring to show a nipple?

The discussion about female terran uniform was a small point I made when praising the episode and baloks clone took it and ran with it, using it as a club to beat me. STD isn’t worth my time typing these replies. The show is as good as Enterprise and once I watch an episode of discovery I’ll never waste my time watching that episode ever again unless it’s a great episode which will likely be rare...
