It's TV-MA-SV. I wonder if it's TV-MA-SV because it's on the internet, or if it's on the internet because it might be TV-MA-SV.

I'm a grown man, I can take it, but I don't see the necessity of not sticking to TV's currently pretty lax plan for 10 o'clock broadcast programming.

I liked this episode a lot. I think I was way way too generous last week because it wasn’t really a 10. It was more like an 8.

With that said this episode would get a 10. I was captivated throughout and I appreciated the Klingons finally speaking English so the flow can keep going. I was really interested in Stamett’s storyline and we actually got some real natural development from him and Culber.

After this episode I don’t think Ash is Voq, but what if we think about this further putside The box. What if Ash is really Ash but when he was tortured he became Voq to try to bring the Klingons together. It makes sense with his no family thing from the first two episodes. Maybe L’rell Took an interest in humanity and tried to use an outsider to unify the empire. Now that would be an interesting development and it would explain the PTSD.

As for Lorca, man he might be a bad man, but I find him so interesting. He’s almost like what if Jellico was on full time and the crew actually did get used to his command style. He’s like the pre-cage Jellico.

Yeah? What about the override he did on that last jump?

What about it? Doesn't mean anything to me right now...most likely silly fan bait. The jump wasn't overridden because they jumped. Stamets has been showing signs of being messed up for weeks. It was one jump too many after his ordeal with the Klingon Flagship and he sent them astray as a result.

Hell, Lorca wasn't even going to use the DASH drive until Stamets insisted.

Lorca for Federation President 2260!!!

Now, this is the way that you go into a midsession break! What a cliffhanger! Kol and the Ship of the Dead gone. L’Rell aboard Discovery playing with an even more suspicious Tyler. Stamets in trouble. And Discovery lost.

Strong 9/10!

It airs at 8PM in Canada.

Arggh. I thought she was still on Discovery. I just now remembered the rescue shuttle. That was clearly a way of getting rid of the actress for the second half, because it makes little sense for them to pick her up in a slow warp vessel and not just have the Discovery spore drive her the quick way around.

From a story perspective it makes sense though. If Cornwell was there, and they were stranded in an alternate universe, she'd essentially have to take command of the mission as the highest-ranking officer of the Federation right? Which would mean Lorca would either have to cede his ship to her, or else openly violate the chain of command - in which case he's getting court martialed when they get back to prime.

At some point, fans need to drop the whole "Lorca is a villain / mirror universe guy / Section 31 agent / evil a-hole" rhetoric. The last few episodes (really since Cornwell showed up) he's been fighting back to who he really is.

Guy's just fighting personal demons. And he's not a virtuous bore like some of the other Captains have been...so this seems to throw everyone for a loop.

Best character the franchise has seen in a long long time.

Looking at tonight, when he shot up on the bridge, I think he is having a narcotic reaction to his eyedrops.

Also if his eyes are turning white, and Stamet's eyes are turning white... How long has Lorca been playing with mushrooms, that we don't think that his eyedrops are mushroom sauce?

The exterior shots of the Discovery in this episode were absolutely gorgeous. I'm not sure who directed this episode, but it looked cinematic in every way. Surpassed even the quality of Star Trek Beyond at times.

Someone needs to post some hidef screencaps of the Discovery in orbit from tonight. Awesome stuff.

Great episode. 9/10
  1. The spore drive attack was crazy and as someone else said it very clearly needs to be nerfed. It's like playing in God mode. I'm sure it breaks down the dimensional barrier something fierce so Starfleet has to shelve it.
  2. Voq and Tyler are one and the same. I'm convinced now. L'Rell surgically altered him, brainwashed him, and she has a plan. What that is remains to be seen. She got her revenge on Kol but she never seemed to have much interest in going to war with the Federation.
  3. Hooray for Admiral Cornwell! They definitely should have left her on the DIscovery. Why they punted her off so fast and not their Klingon prisoner is not logical.
  4. Hokiest thing was the Burnham and Kol fight. He should have easily beat her or snapped her neck. Why they didn't vaporize a Starfleet intruder on their bridge makes no sense given these Klingon's uber violent nature. Plus throw in the loud beacons for good measure. Wasn't this supposed to be a stealth mission?
  5. Stamets = Gary Mitchell?
  6. My Dad hated the guy on guy kiss. He'd vote 1/10 just for that. Tough to change the viewpoint of some of the older generation.
  7. That Vulcan admiral is pretty emotional. Not one of the better Vulcan's I've seen portrayed. They'd be better off with an Andorian or Tellarite admiral if they need to play the character that way.
  8. Visuals were excellent. Although after 9 episodes the design of Discovery has still not grown on me. Very Meh on it. I liked Shenzou.
  9. Lorca is still very much a gray character. I bet he never told Starfleet to give Stamets his medal. All BS to get him to comply with jumping again. He plays people for his own ends.
Time to cancel All Access for a bit. I subscribed to show them that people still care about Star Trek and apparently I wasn't the only one. Looking forward to January!

LOL, while of course I'm willing to entertain the possibility that the writers will throw in some twists that eventually makes Lorca look bad, I sure hope that they don't.

He's my favorite Star Trek captain now, bar none. A paragon of virtue he is not, he could be the anti-Picard. But a lot on this episode showed, IMHO, that at his core his gruff exterior and rule-breaking are to achieve noble goals.

Lorca / Stamets 2260!
