It's so weird...I've never had a performance issue with CBSAA.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on that one. Hasn't happened yet.

"We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties. Please check again later."

Third time through - that holodeck was obvious from the first shot, wasn't It?

The show isn't good enough to put up with this shit. Maybe I'll give a shot some other time; MST3K is on Comet.

I rated this the highest of the 6 episodes so far - an 8. Thank God, because I was starting to lose hope. I didn't hate Tilly as much in this episode. Burnam showed her humanity. I'm looking forward to the next episode, something I haven't been able to say since the start of the show.

Cadet Tilly is best Tilly.

Lorca really is putting his faith in Burnham. I like that side of him.
"...or don't come back at all." No pressure, Ash.
I was glad to see Admiral Cornwall and Captain Lorca having an actual relationship, with actual nuance, and within a decent age range.
What, you don't sleep with a phaser under your pillow?
Stamets is just getting more and more awesome. He's all "groovy" and shit. It's like he's a space hippie scientist now, which is awesome.
Loved the Sarek/Burnham sequences, and how Sarek had to choose. I had a feeling he was proud of Burnham, but like always was just too stubborn to say anything.
I figured Admiral Cornwall would be dead the moment she said she was taking Lorca's command away. I just wondered how. Now we know how it might happen.

Plot: 7/10
Dialogue: 10/10
Visuals/Atmosphere: 10/10

Final Grade: 9/10

I loved this episode.
Also, for the first time, I was able to watch the show in 1080p. FINALLY.

Solid 8 this week.

I was digging the Vulcan distrust of the Federation yet from Enterprise. The Enterprise name drop was cool. It's entirely plausible we'll get a fly-by at some point of the Connie yet this season.

It would be nice if the Klingons got a little comeuppance for killing the neutral hosts, elders of the Cancri no less. They've essentially just declared war on the the Cancri and at the very least have pushed them to become Federation allies.

Poor Admiral...

Also had my first streaming issue tonight as well. The Roku would not load and then stuttered. Switched to All Access on the laptop with no issues.

Tilley was fun to watch this week. I'd been struggling to decide if she's really charming or really annoying. This week she was definitely the former.

Not enough Stamets in this one!

Is it wrong that Spock's mom is hot?

This is the first episode that was glitchy for me. Even the one I watched at my mother'd house using her ibad as a hot spot streamed better. All the other were like watching via cable.

As someone who really liked the last episode, I don't see how people could rate this one so highly. It had three major issues in my mind:

1. Acting was weak. James Frain as Sarek is still only average in terms of performance. The woman who plays Admiral Cornwell isn't particularly good either. And a lot of SMG's performance as Burham felt off this episode to me.

2. Characterization was off. Stamets was acting so weird that even the other characters were mentioning it (presumably it will be brought up later). Lorca got some added depth, but the willingness to back Burham's rescue of Sarek seemed very magnanimous and jarring given his overall portrayal. And Burnham seemed weirdly emotionally stunted compared to her more nuanced performance in the previous few episodes.

3. The worst part by far was the dialogue. There was so much "tell and not show" in this episode. Burham's whispered dialogue in sickbay after her initial vision was eye rolling. As was the attempt at a "human moment" at the end with Ash Tyler. Maybe with a different (better) actor it would have read more naturally, but either way the writers should have known better than to lob so many infodumps on us.

That said, it wasn't entirely unenjoyable. The plot was relatively straightforward and had a nice A/B format like the previous episode. Lorca's character development scenes were largely excellent. The problem here was the execution was totally botched.

I'd perhaps care about your posts...

If it weren't for the fact that we're 6 episodes in and, despite your constant negative smarmy criticisms, you continue to watch. In fact, you continue to watch loyally and religiously.

It's a bit of a joke at this point, no?

I think Lorca is trying to atone for the loss of his past ship, not as bad a person as he initially was portrayed.
