And I am disappointed we went to the Yridia nebula and did not see any Yridians. But, I'll live with that one.

I think the Yridians were suppose to be considered extinct by the Federation for a time until the 24th century when Captain Ransom (before he was lost in the Delta Quadrant) found a group that had survived whatever extinction event happened between the 21st century and the 24th century.

I had a similar weird feeling about Lorca going to disable Cornwell in some way or another.

I really LOVED the fact that he was with someone within spitting distance of his own age! Yay!
Even older, in fact. According to IMDB, Jayne Brook (Adm. Cornwell) was born in 1960, whereas Jason Isaacs (Lorca) was born in 1963.

Not sure why it's particularly noteworthy, though. Granted Hollywood (in general) has a tendency to pair up older men with younger women... but I've never noticed Trek being especially vulnerable to that trope. And in story terms here, the characters being peers just makes sense — in fact, a lot about Lorca's current position is more plausible if he has an old flame who's now an admiral.

It's only notable when Patrick Stewart is the Captain.

Hopefully they resist the urge. The late great Len Wein once said about writing comics, "The first story you would do as a fan should be the last story you'd do as a pro". It applies to Star Trek as well.

While true, I note the Klingon/Federation War was a big well established piece of fanon which is now suddenly canon.

Stamets was acting so weird that even the other characters were mentioning it...
That's because Stamets is now Stamets-tardigrade-prototaxites stellaviatori DNA merged. Think "Brundlefly". Next Stamets may be sprouting six clawed appendages and drinking water from a bowl. I think he's in a heap of DNA trouble, but maybe they will be able to modify his DNA to a less problematic state through further genetic engineering, or by using the transporter biofilter cross linked with the Heisenberg Compensator in some hyper-complex questionably ethical protocol violating couldn't possibly work but will manner, though he may resist being so fungally enamoured.

In Greek mythology, Lethe /ˈliːθi/ (Greek: Λήθη, Lḗthē; Ancient Greek: [lɛ́:tʰɛː], Modern Greek: [ˈliθi]) was one of the five rivers of the underworld of Hades. Also known as the Ameles potamos (river of unmindfulness), the Lethe flowed around the cave of Hypnos and through the Underworld, where all those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness. Lethe was also the name of the Greek spirit of forgetfulness and oblivion, with whom the river was often identified.

In Classical Greek, the word lethe literally means "oblivion", "forgetfulness", or "concealment".[1] It is related to the Greek word for "truth", aletheia (ἀλήθεια), which through the privative alpha literally means "un-forgetfulness" or "un-concealment".

Forgetfulness = Klingon, torture, interrogation and imprisonment.

The removal of sin plays into this as well.

Concealment is the lie Gabe told.

It's a 7. Sarek kind of dragged it down for me - I don't think the actor is all that great. Otherwise I liked it. Lorca's a sealed up box of angry cats.

So, Bryan Fuller recently tweeted this...

And he then said to check out this episode. So... look at that cool ass triangle pattern on the cloth on Mark Lenard and then look at Lorca's scars...

I really liked the episode. It's Burnham's best episode to date and I see it as a important episode were I think we will start to see her acting more human. The stuff with Sarek having to choose Spock over her I think adds alot to the real version and it's something I see as something that also happened in the prime universe. I had a feeling Lorca and the Admiral had romantic feelings. It's kind of cliche and I kind of wish you could just have a guy and woman be friends but in the end what they did do was worth of it because of the great scene were you see just how emotionally damaged he is when he almost chokes and pulls a phaser on her and then starts to almost beg her to let it slide.

The Klingons are bad once again and I think i't's lost cause with them. Maybe in season 2 they will alter the look and give them some of their old flair. It doesn't help that I still don't know why any the klingon characters are doing anything they do. They really do have some flimsy motivations for them. I guess our predictions about drugs were right. We can imagine people still use, speed since it was referenced. Staments is clearly a version from a alternate universe.

I'm curious why the black Vulcan admiral is bald and doesn't have the same Moe from "Three Stooges" haircut that must be a ancient and worshiped hair style that they don't let go of for the sake of tradition.

Good God, I desperately wish they would've found a better actor to play Sarek. James Frain is awful.

However, I gave the ep. an 8. I thought there was some fantastic moments for Lorca, as he demonstrated he's maybe not a complete bastard, though still a gigantic ball of secrets and mystery.

Looks like my prediction about Stamets being The Nerd were correct, although now he's the hypersensitive, excitable nerd.

Still not a huge fan of Burnham, though she was less annoying than in past episodes, though I felt this episode gave her some good growth as well.
