I cheered and sang along. I loved it.In the end, I find it hard to be mad at a film that uses a Beastie Boys song as a weapon. I'm not going to lie, I sang along during the entire sequence and totally bought into the nonsense.

My sister saw it with her boyfriend and told me for the first time she didn't like the reboot films. She said they had a lot of flashing light action. He wore a Star Trek shirt to it though..
If I had heard of the Beastie Boys thing prior to seeing the film, I would have rolled my eyes so much thinking "ugh, these dumb nuTrek films", but with the way it was actually set up and executed I just rolled with it and has a big smile on my face "is that classical music?"I cheered and sang along. I loved it.
It was! Especially as it went along so nicely with Jaylah's "I like the beats and the shouting."If I had heard of the Beastie Boys thing prior to seeing the film, I would have rolled my eyes so much thinking "ugh, these dumb nuTrek films", but with the way it was actually set up and executed I just rolled with it and has a big smile on my face "is that classical music?"
Such a surprising delight!

Besides the fun of the music... that whole scene was amazing, especially the shots of the giant wave of Swarm ships in space. Wow.
In my "head canon" the power of the Beastie Boys is what turned the tide. Also, to those thinking that the music somehow 'blew up' the swarm ships' directly; it didn't. The Swarm was flying in close/tight/very controlled formation; and once that control was disrupted the ships started smashing into each other at high speeds - which caused damage, explosions, etc. that just cascaded through the mass of ships.
Drones. In my "head canon" the power of the Beastie Boys is what turned the tide.
One thing that wasn't adequately explained: were those Swarm ships piloted by sentient "true believers" or were they mindless drones?
Hmm... so Krall co-opted the drones left behind on the planet? I guess he stole his lifejuice from aliens captured by the drones?Drones.
That's how I read it.Hmm... so Krall co-opted the drones left behind on the planet? I guess he stole his lifejuice from aliens captured by the drones?
That's why I am looking forward to seeing it multiple times... I want to catch those details. That's how I read it.
My feelings about BEYOND and the last two films could not by any more similar with theirs. They nailed exactly my thoughts and feelings regarding this film. It's so wonderful to feel positive about Trek again, especially, as they pointed out, in a very weak summer for blockbusters.Red Letter Media LOVED it.
