I wish they would have used a picture from TMP, instead of STV, because it had the full crew (a bit disappointed that there was no dedication to GLW). They could have even photoshopped Arex and M'Ress in Decker's and Ilia's places.

Such as this one:

No thanks. There is no way in hell that they would have shown a picture with Decker, Ilia, Chapel, Rand, Arex, or M'Ress. What we got was just right.

IIRC, she said in dialog that Krall had captured her crewmates. She thought she could save them by cooperating.

She admitted later that she was fibbing ("Do you believe every sad story you hear?").

Based on how many times we see her image, I figured she was the female member of Krall's original crew that we see in the video, and who Kirk records as deceased at the end alongside Eddison and Manas. One of the 'three' surviving members. Can't really tell for certain without screencaps to compare though.

I don't get how easily those swarms attacked and penetrated the shields.
There was a line in dialog (I think it may have come from Scotty) about the swarm ships penetrating the Enterprise's shield frequencies.

Speculating for a moment and putting on my Trek-tech hat, I suspect that Krall's experience as a top MACO soldier gave him the experience he needed to give the swarm ships that capability.

Good catch. Thank you. That's something for me to watch for on next viewing.

The thing I missed was why were they taking the crews alive, and what was Krall doing with them when he went all phase-y? Also where did Krall get the ships?

Also where did Krall get the ships?

That's something I want to know ... and were they unmanned drones? When Spock and Bones entered one of the ships, there was a pilot flying the ship ... but it's impossible that all those ships had real pilots.

Also, didn't Krall have a lot more people whe he boarded the Enterprise in the beginning of the movie? Did he really sacrifice so many of his crew, that there were only two of them left in the end?

I just got back from a screening. Overall, I thought it was great. A little convoluted in places, but I think that could be fixed on a rewatch as I think I probably missed a few things. The crew really felt like family this time, and I liked how they all had their moments to shine. Anton Yelchin was great in his last Star Trek appearance, and he had more to do in this movie than any of the others. Spock and McCoy had some of the best moments. It did kind of have that old school TOS feel to it. Pine gave his best performance yet as Kirk. The Enterprise references were also nice touch. And I loved the picture of the old crew, it almost made me tear up. The audience I was with loved it too and clapped at the end. Right now I'd give it an A-. It was an exceptional film.

I gave the film an A-.. It's the best of the Reboot films, and one of the best of the whole series. This film, has the heart of an Episode of The Original Series... It captures the Spirit, that no other Trek Film has been able to capture.

I was really upset when I learned the Enterprise was going to be destroyed, but watching the sequence play out was incredible. Unlike other films where the E is trashed just to raise the stakes of the Drama, this time, it serves the purpose of the story, and it does it well. And Pegg wrote it in such a way to pay great honor and respect, and treated her like the Character that she was.

If you are going to destroy the Enterprise, this is the way you do it.

I loved the Enterprise Callbacks... I teared up with the TOS Crew photo, and had I been in an empty theater I would have bawled like Kevin Smith....

Don't know.
That timelapse sequence, I reckon it took another year or two for the A to be completed. Maybe a year with their technology..lol.. Thats at least a year gone. But it sure would suck if Kirk and the crew had to start all over again seeing as they were already 2 1/2 years into their five-year mission.

^ Either way, they've got more adventure on the way. And once he completes the mission, Kirk will be hailed a hero. In TOS, I believe he was the first to complete one.

It wouldn't make much sense to let the crew go on vacation for one or two years, so that they can serve together on the new Enterprise when it's completed. It would make a lot more sense if they were re-assigned to other ships. But that's the same old problem we already had in the TOS movies ... having the same crew on the same ship for so many years is completely unrealistic.

I'd love to see Sulu getting his own ship in the next movie, but he is only a Lieutenant ... on the other hand, people seem to be promoted very quickly in the Kelvin Timeline ... :D

I am of the opinion that the pilots and soldiers of Krall's military were drones left behind by the indigenous species which were repurposed by Edison and his crewmates for their mission.

This, for me, is the best of the three Kelvin Timeline movies. Unlike the other two films, I did not have a moment of "Huh?"

Just got back from seeing Beyond. I really enjoyed this movie, and thought it's heart and soul were in the right place. The action was exciting, the destruction of the Enterprise was quite epic and really sad but it was a fast paced scene, and I loved the quiet character interactions. The stuff between Bones and Spock was terrific, and I really like Jaylah, especially her "Montgomery Scotty". :guffaw:

I'm still formulating thoughts, but I think this is my favorite of the three rebooted films. I do plan to go see it again next week and might have a better opinion then. I did tear up a little when they showed the Final Frontier photo and basically all the stuff paying tribute to Leonard Nimoy.

Overall, I would give it a B+

^ It was a gutsy move to destroy yet another Enterprise. I could imagine them thinking... Do we really want to do this again?
In the press conference, Pegg says he initially didn't want to destroy the Enterprise again, but Lin convinced him. LIn's idea was, if you took everything away from the crew and split them up, their impulse to unite again would strengthen the family bond of the team and give them a renewed sense of purpose.
