Spoilers Skeleton Crew [Spoiler Discussion]

I think there's something familiar with that ship. Was Rennod trying to conceal the true look of the ship?

Well, he's a pirate, having the ship look like a blocky cube of crap when it's actually a sleek prequel-era chromed hotrod would lull others into a false sense of security. I've heard fan-theories that Han never cleaned up the Falcon for the same reason, the worse it looked, the less likely it was to attract attention.

Sometimes the Previously On recaps are basically spoilers for the episode you're watching. Like this week, when they showed SM-33 telling the kids "Never press that button" you damn well know, that button is going to be pressed in this episode. Chekhov's Button?
I always skip those ASAP now.

I just finish off watching episode 6. Now, it is now clear the whole season 1 is a kid's movie. Like, what's the deal of this? I am watching a bunch of child actors doing a kid's movie . So, it's disappointing
What did you expect? It was advertised as a kid's adventure movie from the word go.

Another fun episode with some very welcome and much needed character development for KB! I don't know what her accident entailed, but it must have been pretty horrendous to require replacing what looks like ALL of her occipital lobe with cybernetics, and given her inability to move when the implants malfunction; probably a t least a chunk of her cerebellum and maybe a section of her brain stem too.
Interesting choice to have the two best friend pairs split up and essentially swap "sidekicks", or rather the two that seem to get treated that way, but are anything but. Indeed it took Neel of all people to get Fern to think about helping others instead of just assuming everyone can keep up with her when she goes barrelling off. Wim seems to have gained a little self-awareness too.

I like the new look of the Onyx Cinder, or rather what one assumes was the original look of the ship before Rennod modded it with all that extra armour, weapons and engines. Also a skuzzy beat-up pirate ship that can shed it's skin and become a sleek star yacht? Not exactly a subtle metaphor, but still a neat twist! I can't help but feel a little sorry for the cleaning crew though; they just got done pressure washing that outer hull!

As for the design itself; it looks like the Stinger Mantis crossed with a U-Wing, with a tiny bit of Nubian in there too. I like it!

I liked the repair scene but wouldn’t that be very hot to handle? Kid acted like it was nothing.
Some metals cool down pretty quickly, especially the highly conductive ones like copper or aluminium (aka, the kind one might find in electrical wiring.) It may have been a *little* faster than it should have been if one wants to be overly pedantic, but only in the order of a few extra seconds. I think a little brevity is fine if it's in the aid of a little dramatic tension.

That and his standards for living conditions are very low. I mean he literally grew up in a sewer . . . after that even a junkheap freighter must feel like his own personal mansion.

Nah, it was ridiculous. But these things happen in fiction, killing the pace while they waited for it to cool down would have played poorly.

And if you're being chased, you could change your vessel to fool the pursuers.

I'm hearing that Jod emerging with all the beads or whatever on him was some kind of POTC callback. Fine, whatever. But if they were trying to portray that stuff as actual treasure it unfortunately looked like cheap costume jewelry.

I was wondering if he did that as part of a ploy. I think he could have avoided being caught, at least not so quickly. I think he's up to something, and is just playing Brutus.

Technically yes, but this was better this way. The unknown factor, and most mysterious and unexpected thing was what emergency hull demolition would actually be. Since a very shallow reading would imply the hull would detonate and take out whichever thing was attacking the hull, implying the children would still be stranded without a working ship. The recap gave one a whole episode to think what it would do, and how it would be triggered; a built-up which wouldn't have been there without the recap.

That it was deliberate and needed, and that it would do what it did was - much of the time - unexpected.

Yeah, because of the recap there was one minute where you knew this was going to be used, but it was a cliché suspenseful scene that you knew were getting out of, so eh. I am spoiled by the most minute details (so I understanding skipping recaps, even less pointed ones), but this was not one those for me.

I liked the way they mixed up the pairings of the kids, it was a nice way to give them a little more development. I didn't realize KB's implants were so extensive, I thought it was just the visor.
I'm curious what Jod's up to, because he's definitely up to something.
The trash crabs were pretty funny, until they took the kids to the giant one, then they got kinda scary.

Not sure why the monster didn't try and eat the kids. I mean something that big must be feeding off big animals and even humans or humanoid aliens.
