Spoilers Skeleton Crew [Spoiler Discussion]

I liked how you could see the conflict in SM-33 when Fern called "unclaimsies." Part of his droid mind - maybe a part he didn't fully understand - want to help the kids. He liked them. But his programming wouldn't allow him to go against his rightful Captain (Jod.) Even though he knew "unclaimsies" was probably bullshit it just gave him enough of a reason to bypass his directives and save them.
I think the point of that is that it's all bullshit. The pirate code is just as arbitrary and meaningless as the rules that govern a kid's game <Insert Geoffrey Rush Clip Here>.
Plus yes, between snowball eating his brain, having his encrypted memories unlocked, and getting to spend time with the kids, he's developed enough of a personality to skirt around his programming.

Excellent show. Similar vibe and quality to Star Trek's Prodigy.

One of the parents said that only people who graduate get told about the Republic etc.

What isn't entirely clear to me: is het only taking about the old republic or did shipments go on during the time of the Empire and even now? The state of the hidden landing pad suggest it's been a long time since any ship landed there.

I took it as, when someone graduated school, they're told what they're all actually doing on the planet (manufacturing money) and why they aren't allowed to have contact with the outside galaxy (to prevent a planet-sized bank robbery).

Yeah, they already knew something of the outside galaxy, even specifically mentioning being taught about Coruscant and Alderaan (the latter giving away that even the adults are out of contact.) They even knew about the barrier, and that there's this thing called "the great work".

I don't think what they do there is a huge internal secret that they keep away from the younger citizens for nefarious reasons; it's just they start by teaching a much more simplified version of reality, and as they get older elaborate with more and more detail . . . so pretty much how most education systems worked.

I mean how much can most kids that age really understand about the wider world? What I was that age the Soviet Union was collapsing and the Cold War was ending, but no way did I really grasp any of it. I just knew that the geography text books that still had two Germanys and the USSR were out of date.

You can only be captain of one ship at a time? But what if that ship has skiffs or other smaller caft? You know, like the Onyx Cynder.

At Attin would have been a nice place for Jedi to hide after The Purge if they knew about it...

I just realized that most of the times where we've seen Jod threaten the kids is when they're in potential danger, which is starting to make me think that some of that is just for show if or when the other pirates show up. He didn't threaten Fern until they knew the rest of the pirates were outside, and he only decapitated SM-33 and threated them again after the Onyx Cinder had been captured, but whenever he's been alone with them he's treated the decently.
I know he did appear to be threating them again at the end, but this time they are with their parents who he might not trust, and we have the pirates trying to get At Attin to attack it.

Nah. Jod is strong in the douchebag side of the Force. I don't think there's any coming back for him. Every single person that the kids have met while with him have told them that he can't be trusted, and Jod keeps proving them right.

I wouldn't be at all shocked if he gets a classic Long John Silver ending; surviving with less than he desired, but more than he deserves.

I'm curious to see how the droids will react if there's trouble. Will they go full combat soldier or still be "Please put down the weapon or you will be stunned."
