Simply none better than DS9

Long-term Star Trek fan of multiple serieses and movies. Used to watch them when TV was the modern way, now I watch while working (2-screen setup, work one screen and watch on the other).

I just started watching the DS9 series from the beginning (again), and there were so many extremely enjoyable interactions and personalities in this show even from the beginning that I can't help feeling none of the other serieses were quite so good in that respect. I think this show started off stronger than most because the personalities were very believable and extremely well joined (unlike the very clearly fake and exaggerated temperaments of most modern characters). The personalities I felt were uninteresting in DS9 were nil, with last place in interest probably held by the Dax persona. It was balanced and supportive most of the time, rather than distinctive and interesting (again, without seeming false).

In episodes 3 and 4, even the first season came out with extemely memorable interactions between Quark and Odo in a way that reminds me of how well even antagonistic personalities can be played alongside one another. It's one of my favorite pairs, Quark and Odo. To-date, nothing in all the Star Trek serieses compares to their particular interaction in some episodes. IMHO, these two characters had perhaps the best, most memorable antagonistic interactions of any star trek characters ever.

Garak was also an extremely interesting personality whenever he appeared in the series. I thought his character and interaction in all directions was excellent overall.

I felt the nemesis and many other bad-guy characters in DS9 were all interesting, complex, and in most cases quite believably ruthless (or otherwise unpleasant, but again believably so).

The other characters and personalities in DS9 were all so very distinctive and their interactions (without going into specifics) seemed to be very interesting and enjoyable, without seeming false. Falseness seems to be a widely accepted trait of acted character personalities since the late 2000s, and I just have no respect for it because it isn't believable or entertaining to me.

I never found nearly the same level of cohesiveness or believable personality design and decision-making (a key part of the personality of characters) after DS9, especially in Voyager. The characters all seemed either to be missing a piece of the realistic personality puzzle or otherwise seemed exaggerated or unrealistic in their choices and decision-making rationales, so...simplistic.

Enterprise was the last hope in that regard, and I think the personalities in that series better approximated realistic personality and perspectives (though there were issues like absolute single-mindedness that's just not realistic, e.g. Trip and his view on ethics and morals) than the ones in Voyager.

Just my thoughts. Going back to watching DS9 now while working.

The Circle trilogy. Maquis Part I and II. The episode where Team Kira and Team Sisko try to kill each other. The episode where that mad Cardassian in the slammer drives Kira bananas pretending he's a war criminal. The episode where Garak and Odo go on an outing with the Romulans to give the Dominion a jolly good thrashing. The interplay between Garak and Bashir, Odo and Quark. Yip. TV at its finest.

I just finished watching through season 7 last month with my daughter. The series was very good IMHO, even if a bit darker that other series in the franchise. Memorable secondary characters were Garak, Weyoun (actually any character that Combs played), and Grand Nagus Zek.
