What are they doing about birth control on this ship?
Don't think they'd worry if they thought they were hours away from dying - hopefully it might get mentioned later on though. Might be a reason to work in TJ actress' pregnancy..?
What are they doing about birth control on this ship?
I didn't.Actually, what didn't ring true for me was that Young and Rush were the only ones to recuse themselves from the lottery. There are a lot of people there, a number of them older. It's hard to believe there are no "women and children first" types around.
Oh, I believed it.
As RJDemonicus pointed out, there were quite a few older people in the crowd. Not everyone grew up in today's world where everyone is a self-serving, self-entitled, and all around selfish dickweed. Many older people (even today despite that mindset) had the benefit of understanding the concept of sacrificing oneself for the betterment of the group.
Note that despite the unfounded accusations Young made, both Rush and Young understood that concept. At least one or two others should have followed suit, if not more.
I wouldn't expect it from anyone in the younger crowd, though. Me me me me me.

If they did that, the ship itself would still look the same.Once they make peace with this being their home, they'll do what everybody does in a new house. Pick up some potted plants, some nice posters for the walls, some new furniture, paint, etc.And as for the sets, I don't know how they'd redesign those without the story looking contrived. I don't see how the ship could get transformed or upgraded in a plausible fashion that fits with the show.![]()
I don't consider it a fad. This is what serious drama is today. It won't go away, but it'll evolve. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into something you do like. Whatever happens though is unlikely to happen suddenly with SGU.I don't know about that. This fad has to end someday,...Plus, it costs money to overhaul sets on a significant scale and I don't think there's any sort of critical mass of viewers or people behind the camera who are unhappy enough with the gritty look for that to happen.
It's not really a change for the franchise. The 1994 movie was a lot closer to SGU than it was to SG-1 or Atlantis. If anything, the franchise has returned to the way it started. The shows are run by different people though, and they're probably following a directive, so who knows what they're thinking....and I have to wonder how happy the Stargate folks really are with the strange changes to their franchise.
Does anyone know how the past two weeks have been ratings-wise? MGM and the SyFy Channel were quick to trumpet the uptick in ratings for week two, but I haven't seen a word about the ratings for weeks three or four anywere. I recall seeing the ratings for Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate SG-1 pretty consistently in the past. So what's the deal?
2.09 million...Stargate Universe dropped 14 percent from the previous week’s 2.44 million. Meanwhile Sanctuary dropped, but not nearly as steep, off 4.5 percent from last week’s 1.85 million to score 1.76 million
But still, it's there; the token failed mutiny,
What? I was shocked there wasn't more of a mutiny.
Good change is indeed good...bad changes, not so much. Dreary lighting, jump zooms are aesthetics patented by BSG-yes, Firefly did it first, but FF lasted a meager 13 eps, while Galactica went on to become critically slobbered on (deservedly so for S1), and signature series that put SyPhy on the map for tv people who ignored the genre beforehand...Change sometimes is good.

I too have wondered who well the show fared in week four with Darkness. None of the media sites I frequent have posted week 4 ratings thus far...Does anyone know how the past two weeks have been ratings-wise? ^ I've noticed that a lot of people who ordinarlily take issue with most sex scenes liked the one with Kaylee, but I could never see why that one in particular was the exception. To me they're all pretty much the same.
This one was pretty dull.
Another dull boring episode, wonderful. Just what this brand new show needs in it's opening few episodes.
Out of all the positive posts about the episode you took notice more of the one that says it was boring.![]()
But the sets would be improved. Nothing can be done about the ship itself; the design isn't bad, it's just that it has that dull gray Star Wars bas relief look.If they did that, the ship itself would still look the same.
It may, as long as SGU is in the right place at the right time. Maybe after a quarter of a century it's not technically a fad anymore, but it still can't last forever; when it reaches the level of self parody that nuBSG represented, it's got to be nearing the end.I don't consider it a fad. This is what serious drama is today. It won't go away, but it'll evolve. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into something you do like. Whatever happens though is unlikely to happen suddenly with SGU.
As Star Trek and other shows have demonstrated, it's quite possible to write adult drama without contrived situations, forced conflicts and adolesent cynicism. I like fun adventure, too, but that's not what I'm talking about; I'm talking about real adult drama, not what a teenager thinks adult drama should be.What I like about this level of drama is that it more or less gives us a sense of what real people would do if this ship and this situation were real. That's something you don't get with lighter fare that puts the emphasis on fun, adventure and wise-cracks from larger than life heroes. That sort of entertainment is good too, don't get me wrong, but it's also good to have stuff like BSG or SGU. And yes, I know that those shows are stylized and dramatized, but they're still better at giving us a sense of realism than anything that's not a documentary.

If anyone's interested, I'm reposting JuanBolio's prediction...
My prediction for next week - the sun is going to recharge the ship, but they won't know that until the last possible second, and in the meantime will be at each other's throats as to who survives and who doesn't. Everyone will be exposed for who they truly are in a life-or-death scenario, as well as who would off who if it came down to it.
You have my word.
(And you have my bow)
(and MY axe)
