I think this was one of the strongest episodes so far!

Agreed! I absolutely love Rush, his whole character. Couldn't have found someone better to portray him I think. I think this was one of the strongest episodes of the series (along with the previous episode), now all of the characters are really coming in to their own, but Rush is still the stand-out character for me. I hope his real intentions are shown soon (and I'm sure they will be). I can't wait for his central episode though, I've read that it's something like, he almost sacrifices his life and has flashbacks to when he joined.

I love a dude whose best response is the rolling-eyes icon.

But let me point out again...the thread's title says its for those who want to discuss/grade the episode. How exactly do YOU do that if you haven't seen it yet? If you were actually curious about what folks thought about this episode you only needed to read through the pages of comments to find out. But you decided to jump right in the middle of the thread to ask your phony questions which were obviously just your way of taking a shot at the series itself. That could have been done in other threads. Perhaps even one which you yourself could have started. That being said please spare me your "what did I do/who says I don't like the show" response because no one is buying it. And if you don't understand that I'll put it in a language you're more familiar with: :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Oh dear

This one was pretty dull.

Another dull boring episode, wonderful. Just what this brand new show needs in it's opening few episodes.

Out of all the positive posts about the episode you took notice more of the one that says it was boring.

I'm looking for an exciting episode of Universe, where something actually happens. We've had lots of arguing, lots of 'I shouldn't be here', lots of boring kino logs... now I want action, mystery or anything interesting to happen. They were on the right track with Air part 3, nice offworld mission, exciting ending... now let's see something like that again.

A lot of the comments about this episode have been that it's great, strongest episode yet etc, which is good to hear... but it can be a strong episode, without much happening, ie. boring to some. Which is what I suspect is the case. More character drama, not enough sci-fi.

So theres been plenty of positive reviews and you pick out one saying its dull and take that for fact. You clearly don't enjoy the show or you wouldn't be seeking just the bad points and ignoring the rest. How many episodes do you plan to watch before you give up assuming you dislike the majorty ??? or do you plan to watch a show you could hate for many seasons like the majorty of SG-A...

I said a while back 1 season and so far am personally pleased to stick around for a 2nd season.

Of ffs, I'm enjoying this series, but I consider it to be very slow and ponderous. Darkness was an awful waste of time. I was just looking for opinions as to whether this one had more action or if it was the same dull formula of Darkness.

I'm fed up with everyone labelling me a basher, or being told that I hate the show. I am not, and I do not. I was just looking for opinions.

"good episode" could mean great character drama, lovely visuals and a nice soundtrack.

I wanted to know if it was dull and boring. That's all.

What a strange mixed bag this show is turning out to be. The replenishing flight into the star and the gravity assist were both great. Some nice Hard SF there. Some of the characters, besides Eli and Chloe, are growing on me; the characterization of Rush has improved tremendously. I still have hopes that this nuBSG thing was a directive from above that they will slowly evolve away from-- hopefully not too slowly.

But still, it's there; the token failed mutiny, the ungrounded suspicions of a Rush conspiracy, the little forced conflict between Camille and Young. The camerawork is still shabby, but not as bad as it started out; there are still the occasional odd zooms and jumps, but at least it doesn't look like an Asylum production.

The outside of the Shuttle looked odd; I'm not sure if that was meant to represent wear and tear, or an alien aesthetic. And the interior of the Destiny looks better with the power topped off, but it still needs a lot of work.

It's still possible the show can shape up.

It almost certainly was a directive from the higher ups, but that's one of the things I like most about SGU. If this were a rehash of the other two shows, I wouldn't be nearly as taken in. I liked SG-1, but I like that we got something else this time around. Will they move away from this? Unless the creative team falls off track, or unless someone demands a shift in tone (look how well that worked for Earth: Final Conflict and seaQuest), I can't see it happening.

I think Rush's motives are clear, he became obsessed with the Icurus project and Destiny to fill the void left by the death of his wife. What isn't clear is how much he knows and whether he has any degree of morals left.

I don't see a sudden makeover or retooling, I just see all the token nuBSG elements fading away in favor of more straightforward storytelling; i.e. the forced conflicts, the shoddy camerawork, the bland sets will be forgotten or evolve.

What? I was shocked there wasn't more of a mutiny.
Actually, what didn't ring true for me was that Young and Rush were the only ones to recuse themselves from the lottery. There are a lot of people there, a number of them older. It's hard to believe there are no "women and children first" types around.

Oh, I believed it.

I didn't.

As RJDemonicus pointed out, there were quite a few older people in the crowd. Not everyone grew up in today's world where everyone is a self-serving, self-entitled, and all around selfish dickweed. Many older people (even today despite that mindset) had the benefit of understanding the concept of sacrificing oneself for the betterment of the group.

Note that despite the unfounded accusations Young made, both Rush and Young understood that concept. At least one or two others should have followed suit, if not more.

I wouldn't expect it from anyone in the younger crowd, though. Me me me me me.

Don't forget, they're in a bad situation and they have to show that, and I think they've done well at doing so for the most part. I've seen a number of instances where they could have done something over the top, but they didn't. As for the camera work, the best I can see them doing is doing away with the one or two jumpy/jerky moments wee see in each episode, just as a minor fix. And as for the sets, I don't know how they'd redesign those without the story looking contrived. I don't see how the ship could get transformed or upgraded in a plausible fashion that fits with the show. I also don't see them becoming planet bound or getting a new ride. Plus, it costs money to overhaul sets on a significant scale and I don't think there's any sort of critical mass of viewers or people behind the camera who are unhappy enough with the gritty look for that to happen.

I'm shocked there is a mutiny at all. Two days out of a lost battle the CO and civilian leader are willing to go down with the ship and the Top Soldier is backing them up. A man who has already proven he will drop the hammer on his own people. In one day the military discipline of special forces just breaks, I don't think so.

Spencer doesn't represent everyone.

Exactly. It already seems to have improved since the premiere.

Once they make peace with this being their home, they'll do what everybody does in a new house. Pick up some potted plants, some nice posters for the walls, some new furniture, paint, etc.

Plus, it costs money to overhaul sets on a significant scale and I don't think there's any sort of critical mass of viewers or people behind the camera who are unhappy enough with the gritty look for that to happen.
I don't know about that. This fad has to end someday, and I have to wonder how happy the Stargate folks really are with the strange changes to their franchise.

She hasn't been portrayed as that sort so far.
"That sort" is pretty much any Human Being with breath in their lungs. ;)

 On behalf of my generation, thanks for that.

I'd have been happier, I have to say, if it had been one of the civilians who had stepped up and made a fuss. But then I guess you have Greer rifle-butting a civvie and it's not as character sympathetic. But then, BSG got away with pretty much exactly that in the mini and Helo's a much more sympathetic character than Greer.
The realism is helped somewhat by the fact we've seen this guy being a dick before - it's quite likely that he was a dick to begin with, and it's not 3 days on Destiny that's broken his discipline. After all, we accepted some pretty insubordinate soldiers at times on SG-1, because they have "what it takes" to be SGC, whatever conveniently vague thing that is.
