Recreational use for the stones is important and shouldn't be downplayed. People aren't robots, they need to get back to some normalcy every now and then.

1. Maintaining contact with command on Earth.
2. Allowing the people aboard Destiny some respite from their situation.

3. Bring people with expertise onto the ship...like...I don't know...getting a licensed medical doctor onto the ship during the outbreak of an alien illness (rather than letting the medic handle it)... ;)

Seriously, they repeat that line over and over again about how it's the "wrong people in the wrong place," but they can easily get the right people onto the ship on a near constant basis. They just don't bother.

I doubt if they're going to allow anybody to permanently switch minds, they can get a specialist if they need to, but I doubt if there's many earth doctors who could handle a alien plague. Also there's the matter of using the right equipment, which might not be available on Destiny.

They don't need to permanently switch minds. Get an expert (in whatever is needed, ancient tech/ancient language/medicine) to spend 2-4 hours each day on the ship each day. Non-essential ship members can rotate in and out (making sure that nobody is spending too much time with their body being used).

More importantly, though, they should get an expert on-board when there's an emergency. It should be step 1: alien illness (get a doctor), engine not working (get a mechanic), language problems (get a linguist), psychiatrist problems (get a psychologist or psychiatrist if they have any related medications on-board).

I'm not against it on principle, but the fact is the unregulated use of it is causing problems. This Telford/Young crap should have been nipped in the bud from day one.

That's fine for the Destiny end of the stone but what about the earth end. Instead of a Danial Jackson or Captain Carter going on the mission, to study Destiny we have anybody manning the stones. Except for one episode it seems to be Col Telford and drafted soldiers, the rest are not scientist, military or civilian. We have seen Camile switch with a Senior Airman then a Chief Master Sergeant. We have seen Col Young use a Sr. Airman's body to lay a beat down on Col Telford.

I was saying it last week, but they seriously need to have TJ using the stones on a regular basis so that she can attend medical school (or, more realistically, a crash-course in xenomedicine). They could probably have her earn an M.D. in a year or two if they were smart about things.

And not only that, but...

4. Send people to Earth in order to get them proper training.

There's a limited supply of bullets onboard, but there's no reason Eli or anyone else for that matter isn't spending time on Earth at the weapons range, where ammo isn't running short. There's no reason why TJ isn't regularly back on Earth being trained in various medical procedures, or in psychiatry, if she is going to continue to fill that role.

At that point, why even bother with setting the show in a different galaxy? I'm assuming they'll deal with the ethics of body swaps or whatever, or maybe do a "funny" episode where A MAN GETS TRAPPED IN A WOMAN'S BODY (oh noes), but if they actually end up using the device "logically", then any tension that there might be left on the show is entirely gone.

Heck, they might even permanently replace the skill-less characters like Chloe and bring in someone who could actually contribute to the ship's survival.

How many experts on alien viruses and Ancient technologies are there though? Right now I think it's better that they find their way out of their problems as they did in Light and Air part III.

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to care about this show.

I probably would have dropped it by now if it weren't appointment viewing with my roommate.

Well, after 12 or so years of the Stargate program, you'd have to say there are more than the ZERO they're showing on SGU thus far.

I gave this a 7, and that was generous.

I realize they have to introduce some interpersonal drama, but this is too much. The other two stories were okay, but the Telford/Young thing was lame. I won't rehash what's already been said except to agree with it. Too much melodrama.

I'm okay with some of the melodrama, but some of it is just beyond all credibility, especially the Telford/Young stuff.

Agreed. Scott having a kid in peril back on Earth gives some gravitas to his situation. I'm okay with that. But the Young/Telford thing is stupid.

And I agree with others that the ethics of using other people's bodies needs to at least be explored. Did that woman consent to having sex with the other woman? Does she experience it? Remember it?

^ I think that Scott had a brief 'flashback' connection to Telford suggests this is a storyline that will be coming up - it seems the stones leave a semi-lasting connection.

The show continues to stagnate. I hate the stones. I hate the stones. I hate the stones. I HATE THE STONES!!!

The only reason to have them is to swap bodies with the writers of Battlestar Galactica and have the new writers begin scripting new episodes of Stargate Universe IMMEDIATELY!!!

Yeah, I was thinking about that scene in particular.

If the signals are going to get crossed, it's going to be even worse.

I would give good money to see SG's other geniuses get on Destiny and mix it up with Rush.

I agree with the points already made about training, bringing it experts, etc..
