Well said.Giving Kes a longer lifespan would remove what was theoretically one of her more interesting qualities. Why give her a short lifespan to begin with if you're going to end up making her the same as everyone else?
Kes's most interesting qualities is her personality, not the silly lifespan.
And why should she be so different than everybody else.
As for changing the original premise and for originality, when they gave The Doctor the mobile emitter in "Future's End", they dramatically changed the original premise for the character and took away what really made him original and no one is complaining about that.
I'm not really sure what you're looking for Lynx...you say here that Kes shouldn't be different from everybody else, yet earlier you claimed that the last thing Voyager needed was characters who were more homogeneous (in reference to sarcasm).
Given that your pro-Kes bias is a matter of record and I don't think anyone who's read your previous posts expects you to approach anything regarding her from a remotely objective perspective, I'm forced to conclude that the main reason you want her to have the same lifespan is so that the issue of her leaving the show due to a natural death is no longer pertinent. But IMO dealing with the foreknowledge that at least one character was significantly less likely to survive the trip made Voyager a better show. Granted it's not a -happy- subject, but I prefer realistic Trek over shiny happy Trek anyway.
Why should Kes be different? Because Trek is about exploring new worlds and new civilizations, not about a bunch of humans and human-like aliens who only ever encounter species that they can readily identify with.
And I never claimed Kes's lifespan was her -most- interesting quality; please don't put words in my mouth.
I don't think giving the Doc the emitter took away what made him original. To my mind what made him original was that he was a holographic lifeform, not that he was confined to one location on the ship. While the latter point presented interesting challenges earlier in the show's run, I don't think the majority of fans would have been satisfied if that had remained the case for the duration of the series.
but as awesome as the 6 day war was to study in school,
too late. But lucky for you he was brought back lol.Spock better not die.![]()
Dude, swift breeze makes your nature rise.I voted "other." I think Kes had some potential, but Seven was a more provocative character because she was Borg. And I must admit, Seven really made my nature rise.
...and in an ending worthy of Shrek, Neelix bestows True Love's Kiss upon BorgQueen!Kes, forever ending the threat of the collective.
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Kes should've become the Borg Queen.
Imagine that fan-ficcish crap.
I think he was calling the specific idea crap, not fan-fiction in general, FWIW.

Yeah.
Though I never had a high opinion of fan fic...except five or seven words at time stories...those are awesome.![]()
I've said many times that Borg nanoprobes would have greatly lengthened Kes' life span if not completely arrested the natural aging process... That you have to wonder why they don't all gte assimilated and then recovered in controlled conditions, so they're not grey and senile at the other end of their 70 year Voyage home?

Now that you mentioned it, yeah... why is that? I mean, it would have certainly helped with the aging issue, the paring off issue, the issues associated with not having a vast enough amount of information at your fingertips...
