Seven / B'Elena's relationship

In Human Error, she and holdeck Chakotay had a holdeck romance where, I think, she did sleep with him.

So, it’s not last minute out of nowhere. The writers had a basis established. Which I hated, and hoped never to see again.

TPTB gave themselves that fantasy gift at the end, for that Audience of Three.

So. Three people liked it.

I think the pairing would have been far better received if a simple scene between the two had been added to Natural Law. By the time we see them together in Endgame they are clearly at the very beginning of their relationship so I can forgive its "appearance " there, but the setup could have been better.

I just think the pairing makes no sense! Most of the time, she is annoyed with him and he condescends to her. There was no build-up of attraction or even a developing friendship - and this happens in a show that portrays one of the best Trek romances ever (Tom and B'Elanna). It would be better if Seven had got paired with the Doctor (whom she had much more in common with and who actually cared about her) or Janeway - if at all.

I disagree that they had more in common... they had more screen time together that's for sure, but not sure that equates to common ground or thinking. Seven actually had more in common with Chakotay in a "base" sense in my opinion. Can't think of another way to describe this, but they seemed more on the same wavelength, but had less screen time in which to develop the tension and chemistry that we see between Janeway and Seven, for example. Conversely, Seven and the Doc seemed like bickering siblings together. Chemistry of a certain kind, maybe, but not in an intimate sense. That would have been worse than Chak for me as a viewer. He also did way too many egotistical and/or hedonistic things in his own distorted interest for me... he came off like a creepy stalker (mildly) at times to Seven. And no one wants to date their creepy stalker. Anyway, just my unpopular opinion.

Perfectly valid. I, however, think that both grappled with emotion, with being part machine (or technology), with standing apart from humanity, with having social stigma attached to them. They were both more on the analytical side and shared many interests. I think they had plenty of chemistry. I also suspect they didn't get paired because he wasn't conventionally pretty enough. That's just how I feel. Seven and Chakotay, to me, didn't have any chemistry at all. It was so...tepid. Shoehorned. Meh.

But more power to you if you like them together. It's always better to like things, and I try to do that. Mostly, I succeed. Sometimes, though, it doesn't work. This is one of the few instances for me personally.

I was thinking if I were actually part of the crew who would I want to be friends with? Having a woman friend as a woman myself. B'Elanna is so abrasive - so not her. Seven - maybe. Kes - definitely.

Agree Seven and the Doc’s relationship was almost sibling in nature. Also dislike Seven with Chakotay. Dislike Seven with Janeway because I felt that relation-ship was parental or avuncular/auntie -ish or teacher /student. The books created a Starfleet medical doctor modeled after Dr House (the grumpy genius portrayed by Hugh Laurie) and I don’t love him but I don’t hate him for her yet.

I would have liked to see B’Elanna and Seven bond more; kind of a sisters in arms thing. There’s only so much time for stuff but not letting B'Elanna have friendships as strong as Tom and Harry’s seems a bit of a cheat or sloppy writing or failure to consider women creating lifelong bonds.

That would have been so great. Moar Bel ‘n’ 7 adventures in the Delta Quadrant. That spinoff almost writes itself.

Hollywood writers equate conflict with drama for better or worse. When there are at least two women they HAVE to compete to show dominance because that’s what “alpha” males do. Voyager showed numerous times that Cooperating and collaborating to face existential threats was feasible and usually the best way to do it but that falls by the wayside when things are quiet. It’s poor writing and as much as I love Voyager I feel like some real chances to make it better were squandered.

The Doctor's terrible bedside manner got B'Elanna P.O.'d many a time and it was always cute, though, seeing her a pause to control herself before she'd just say, "thank you," for whatever he did and storm off. So, maybe her sensitivity to rudeness derived from the EMH?

It amazed me how the writers gave the impression all of B'Elanna's negative traits were related to her Klingon side, as if humans don't have bad tempers, can be irate, or downright ugly towards others. I have to give credit to Roxann Dawson's physical performances throughout the series; there was a lot of things she said she didn't mean, probably attempting to polish the turd writing for her character. B'Elanna and Seven had zero relationship, when it came to engineering which she was a genius and when Seven had duties there she had to fall in line. There's no question where the writers interests were when Seven came around; she was the new Data of the series and unfortunately everyone, other than Janeway, had to draw their focus on her.

Any conflicts triggered was best to be resolved through their lead characters; I thought B'Elanna had more of a relationship with Chakotay, Kim, and Tom (unfortunately) than Seven of Nine.

They are too different and are bound to clash. Lets also not pretend like Seven hasn't had her sassy hostile moments. The Gift episode shows her angry and frustrated that she basically got drafted into Voyager. She could have killed Harry had the slap in the face been harder.

Seven has talked back to Belanna too especially in the Survival Instinct episode where she nastily says "I know what nostalgia is" and Belanna looks taken back as I guess she wasnt expecting Seven to raise her voice to her.

I do agree with others that if Seven and Belanna were to ever get into a physical fight, Seven would undoubtedly win. She may not be a full drone or even half a drone anymore but she still has an immense amount of strength due to those nanoprobes.

Voyager had so many missed opportunities. I still wish they would have kept Seska on board as a Cardassian spy trying to gain trust from the Voyager crew but it also would have been difficult. Many crew members (especially Belanna) would have interrogated her and possibly physically harm her (deservedly so).

If Seska had stayed aboard how would she have reacted with the Borg encounters? Seven Of Nine? 8472? Cardassians rely heavily on manipulation since they lack physical strength (besides Garak).

I remember reading a really good fanfic on Reddit about Seska staying aboard and trying to have a conversation with Seven, manipulate Seven into extracting nanoprobes to a device Seska had been working on, only...it didnt work, Seven reminded Seska that the Borg have assimilated Cardassian crew members but exploration ships and shes aware of their tactics and deceiving games. Seska gives up as Seven threatens to remove her arm if she enters her alcove room again. There was so much more to it but it was fascinating and could have made Voyager ten times more entertaining. I always loved the Shattered episode just seeing Seven easily slap Seska and put her on a headlock.

Back on topic: Roxann Dawson looks pretty damn good for her age. Saw her last year and she looks amazing. Jeri Ryan also looks pretty good (from what Ive seen in recent pictures)

As said, clashes between them were inevitable and Seven could be just as rude and abrasive to B'lanna as she was to her.
