Season 5 anticipation thread

Well you done jinxed it now.
Paramount and Skydance seem to likely to partner up. P+ would make a profit soon anyway according to the CEO. I think we are going to have a healthier streaming platform than ever in the next year or so.

My only sadness is they are showing Discovery in almost 150 fewer countries when it was doing so well on Netflix.

BTW, doesn't tomorrow feel like a holiday to anyone else?

Well it is First Contact Day

Actually, isn't FC day the 5th? I thought they landed on the 4th, and stated it was the day before first contact.

But yeah, the fact we're getting 2 episodes.

There's an invite-only east coast premiere for season 5 tonight. It's not widely publicized. Limited seating.

I'm glad they spread these premieres around for such a highly anticipated show.

A good, honest interview

New review:

E1 is fast paced packed with flashy action set pieces :ack::rolleyes::sigh:
for the first time since s2, the story isn't built around some unfathomable tragedy :D
none of the 4 episodes they saw feature any crying
rayner is a gruff pragmatist, aggro entitled authority then more likeable and more depth (sounds like shaw :techman:)
they say: it's fun watch this grumpy old guy interact with a cast full of characters who are totally in touch with their feelings

Putting on "Armageddon Game", then "The Chase".

If I have time afterwards, I'll watch or do some other stuff... then it's onto Season 5 of Discovery!

Sorry to break this up, but I've got something else. Want to post this while it's still fresh on my mind.

Watching "Armageddon Game". I can't for the life of me figure out what Harvesters would have to do with DSC Season 5.

EDITED TO ADD: Finished with the episode. Usually I've got something to work with when I'm trying to figure out how X connects to Y connects to Z. This time I've got nothing. I'm stumped.

Onto "The Chase"!

Okay, "The Chase". This is a great episode, worth re-watching even without preparing for DSC S5, but I'll keep this Disco-related. The artifact that Galen discovered and wanted to surprise Picard with. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar doesn't appear in Discovery. Don't tell me one way or the other.

The ancient race who seeded the galaxy. This has new relevance on Discovery. I'll tell you why. In the fourth season, Discovery made contact with actual alien aliens. Species 10-C. Quite a bit different from the aliens we usually see not only on Discovery but in Star Trek as a whole. Exploring the common origin of most life in the galaxy, and going deeper into exploring said common ancestry will give the Discovery crew and everyone else in the 32nd Century an insight into their own forgotten history.

The Klingons thought they were looking for an ultimate weapon, the Cardassians thought they were looking for an unlimited power supply. "The Chase" makes it look like they were both wrong... but what if they weren't? What if those things are also correct?

Open speculation. No need to tell me one way or another. I'll find out soon enough.

By the way, seeing model work in HD and on a projector reminds me: I don't care how good they make CGI, as far as I'm concerned, like I've said before, there's no substitute for practical effects. I also prefer more natural-looking colors as opposed to the extensive color-grading done so much these days in general. If I'm showing my age with these opinions, then so be it.

But anyway, now I'm just going to kill some time before DSC S5 is available. No time to really watch anything else.
