Screen Rant: It's Possible KIRK Becomes Strange New Worlds' New Number One

You need to watch more TOS.
I have seen it all, but when I was young. I didn’t realise how much I would enjoy it on rewatch though! It’s like watching a totally different TV series for the first time so far.

Where did I get the idea that ensign was aTNG thing from though?

maybe it was… Wesley.

Btw, I don’t think that the rank of ‘ensign’ existed in TOS and SNW times… but I could be proven wrong. Yeomans…
Yeoman is a billet, or military job. Ensign is an officer rank, the lowest commissioned officer starting in TOS.

Yeomen are still used by the US Navy today for administrative and clerical work to ensure the smooth running of different operations.

Of course, there is no better yeoman than “The Yeoman of the Bowmen” (oddly enough, NOT a Navy man). :shifty:

My dad was a Navy Yeoman during WW2.
But he was stationed in Boston at a desk.
(that's where he met mom, she was a navy draftsman the last three years of the war)

Why would Kirk take a demotion, even if temporary?
Enterprise doesn't have an XO for now, so it seems like a logical fit if they find some reason why he needs to transfer to Enterprise temporarily. He doesn't have to actually be formally demoted to serve in the XO role temporarily.

in TMP, Decker could have returned to being a captain (but on a different ship, because Kirk wasn't giving the Enterprise back) or chosen to remain XO once the mission ended had he not become one with V'Ger.

In TWoK, TFF, and TUC Spock was also a captain while Kirk was an admiral and then a captain again, respectively.

In VOY - Equinox, Captain Ransom would have, I guess, bumped Chuckles out of the First Officer position if he had stayed aboard Voyager instead of escaping to murder more of those flying space worms for fuel.

ETA: Corrected my mix-up on the timelines.

I don’t know if this is true, but I sure am going to use it as the basis to slag off everything to do with SNW until S2 comes along and proves it wrong. Seize the day.

With Una gone, Spock is the next in line for the First Officer position.

Pike will offer it to him first.
Whether or not Spock excepts is really the question.

He was described as being a Lieutenant on the Stargazer when the disaster happened that forced him to take command.

Did we ever get anything saying he went from Lieutenant to Captain ( the rank)? Or is that assumption based on him being a Captain and CO of the Stargazer prior to taking command of the Enterprise?

No.

There is absolutely nothing in canon/continuity that would preclude Picard first taking permanent command of the Stargazer while still remaining a Lieutenant Commander by rank.

Which would make perfect sense instead of a several grade jump to Captain. Also, both Picard and Kirk should've had a smaller command , like the Stargazer, as a LCDR. Then serve as XO on a capital ship, like the Enterprise, before getting command of one as a Captain (rank).

Oh wait... I think I said that already! LOL.
