Paramount Confirms TWO Star Trek films currently in the works!

The next one will be a sequel to Beyond. Taratino's project? Who knows.

Do we know for a fact that the next movie will be a sequel to Beyond? Has filming or set construction begun? Have the Abramsverse actors been contracted?

According to the article from The Hollywood Reporter today about S.J. Clarkson directing, yes, Pine, Hemsworth and Quinto are on board. Simon Pegg, John Cho, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban have not signed back on yet, but they probably will.

Ok, thanks for the info. Do we also know that Tarantino is definitely directing ST-5?

No, right now it's just a maybe. Mark L. Smith is currently writing the screenplay, and that's all we really know about Tarantino's project.

This early in the process, nothing is really definite. Think of all the past films that announced directors early on and later ended up dropping them. Heck, Roberto Orci was originally going to direct the third Kelvin film.

But if this Tarantino film actually does get made, it's just been reported that it will be a standalone film that's not part of the Kelvin Timeline. Since it's been rumored to be based on a reworking of a classic Trek episode, I take that to mean it won't be in the Prime timeline either.

This is cool. Don't get me wrong, I love the Kelvin timeline passionately, but a DC-style approach where films are released that both are and aren't part of the greater continuity can only be a good thing.

Could Tarantino's idea be a spin off? Maybe still in the kelvin timeline, but expanding on something the other movie might explore with different characters.

maybe Tarantinos Trek is going to be Yesterdays Enterprise The Movie (Generations done right) with CG deaged to Trek VI era Shatner and Co encountering TNG on the Ent F

Also who says Beyond, which wasn't that great, nor bad, it was just there, underpreformed by 200 million?

Well as STID pretty much made 500 million in adjusted dollars, and the budget for Beyond was sizeable 185 million, then 500 million plus was the clear target for this picture. My figure of 200 million was just a rough number to get my point across, as no-one really fully knows what the break even/profit figure is for films these days.

More Star Trek is more better! I love that the franchise is really back now. We have a show, two movies and comics all going now.
Yep, hopefully the novels will get back on track shortly; though I can't say I'm not enjoying the chance to get caught up...

First off, it's not really a formal announcement. Some actor or writer let it slip recently that Paramount was looking into several script possibilities, and it sounds like this exec was asked about it at a convention and confirmed it, with the clarification that they're working on two specific ones.

Second, there's nothing at all unusual about holding back details at this stage. Naturally, everything is still in flux at this point, so anything that was revealed now could be completely changed in a few months. There's nothing to be gained by going into specifics.

HBO is working on five Game of Thrones spinoffs, but not all of them will come to fruition. This is probably the same thing. Paramount has two ideas in the air for Star Trek movies and they're looking into them, but they haven't decided which of the movies -- if any -- to greenlight.

Well is it really going to happen?

A stand alone QT Trek peaks my interest I have to say. Prime or Kelvin I just want a great Trek. Feel QT could deliver as a Trek fan.

He's a TOS guy so I'd think he'd lean more towards Kirk, Spock crew versus TNG for the film

No Shatner or Stewart please, time to move on IMO

Killjoy alert: They wouldn't just be making the next two back to back to save money / ensure they get the whole cast while still available .... like they di with the Hunger Games???

Given the reports that the Tarantino project is not in Kelvin and is from a different creative team, that would be a no.

Although it would be a pretty good idea if they did do that. I don't see why it would be a bad thing. A number of really good films have been shot back-to-back, like Back to the Future Parts 2 & 3, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the aforementioned Hunger Games: Mockingjay duology.

and there were elements of 'Orcis 3' in Beyond too. no wonder he cant release it via IDW or a novel

its just gonna be abit bittersweet watching Thor knowing it was originally meant for The Shat :weep:

I wonder if the George storyline will be what was meant for Shat? I'd be surprised if we see him or Stewart again, everytime the idea is breached something pulls it away :( it depends on the direction they take.
