I go with both. I love the old model, and think in a lot of ways, it really does look more "real" then CGI, but I was never a fan of the old phaser effects. I remember when I was young, watching The Doomsday Machine, and being thrilled by the story, but being momentarily thrown out of it each time one of the ships fired on the planet killer, with that flat, textureless yellow cartoon line (unfortunately, the remastered effects weren't as perfect on that one either). But like I said, I love the old model.
But I also love what they can do with the new effects. Like, when the E enters the barrier in WNMHGB, I nearly had to change my pants. Yes, I'm a big fan of starship porn. And actually showing some of the battle in The Ultimate Computer and showing more than one Romulan at a time in The Deadly Years, that's really cool to me. I couldn't care less if a Gorn blinks, but the ships...that's what gets me. So I do really love the new effects, but if they had never made them, I'd still be quite happy with the old.
