I go with both. I love the old model, and think in a lot of ways, it really does look more "real" then CGI, but I was never a fan of the old phaser effects. I remember when I was young, watching The Doomsday Machine, and being thrilled by the story, but being momentarily thrown out of it each time one of the ships fired on the planet killer, with that flat, textureless yellow cartoon line (unfortunately, the remastered effects weren't as perfect on that one either). But like I said, I love the old model.
But I also love what they can do with the new effects. Like, when the E enters the barrier in WNMHGB, I nearly had to change my pants. Yes, I'm a big fan of starship porn. And actually showing some of the battle in The Ultimate Computer and showing more than one Romulan at a time in The Deadly Years, that's really cool to me. I couldn't care less if a Gorn blinks, but the ships...that's what gets me. So I do really love the new effects, but if they had never made them, I'd still be quite happy with the old.

Old: When watching a 40 year old SciFi TV show I don't expect CGI quality effects, I enjoy it for what it is. Sure, the effects are dated, but they are 40 years old after all. The new FX look good for the most part, but I just don't see the point.

Old gets my vote as well. The remastered episodes are a novelty that I've enjoyed. But when I think of Star Trek, it will always be the original that I'm thinking of.

Are these comparable shots from "Mudd's Women"...the Rigel mining planet? I prefer the newer CGI wireframe models for detail and color, but I guess iI'll always have a very deep soft spot for the original 1966 opticals.

I didn't vote because I like both for separate reasons. I am one of those that will always have the old effects burned into my memory. But at the same time, the remastering has breathed new life into my love of this show. It is almost like I am watching them new all over again.

What's that old song... "Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool, because loving you both is breaking all the rules" ... or something like that. :rommie:

The new is not bad, but it wasn't done as well as it could have been done, so the old prevails for me. There was room for improvement over the old that the new could have achieved, but just didn't.

I voted NEW, but for the reason you stated so well... "the re-mastering breathed new life into my love of this show."
I couldn't have said it better. :vulcan:

New. Old should have been better to start with, had the effects house been on their toes.

I would like to see the New version with a pure white ship though just for comparison.

I've always, always wanted to see Trek remastered with computer-enhanced effects and digital sound. Even before I knew what that was. The external shots were always the weak link for me, especially compared to the actor performances, and of course the writing. Bonk bonk!

Huh? They were as on-their-toes as any effects house could get for their budget, time and weekly schedule.

I would like to see the New version with a pure white ship though just for comparison.

Again, huh? The ship was medium gray, what comparison would a pure white one give you?

Well look at those pics again and tell me they are the same color? Ok, so not pure white but I should think one would get the gyst. Anyway, since it was my opinion in the first place, let me say "more in line with the original hue" whatever the html code is.

As to the effects house not being on their toes, actually it's secondhand information so feel free to ignore it. But I heard they didn't deliver. I could be wrong. I do know that we very nearly had a Spock with repugnant ears, if not for an 11th hour personal favor called in to an expert ear guy. Lots of cases like that. Sets made from junk, throwaway industrial parts, check out the DVD complete set special features, you'll get the story.

Regardless, check out something like New Voyages (or whatever it's called now) and tell me the bar hasn't gone up in terms of exteriors.

I think the interiors hold up nicely in the 21st century, but no, the exteriors - I mean, compared with what some random geek can do with a decent editing suite in his living room? Yeah, I say go for it! I've seen the 60's. Let's see the 2000's.

Old. To my eyes the new effects have more in common with The Animated Series than they do the original show.
