Official TrekBBS Fantasy Baseball League!

Announcement from ESPN keeper league commissioner:
I have ordered an invetigation of Scout's team after the revelation that one of his players Alex Rodriguez has admitted steroid use. I thought it was a straight forward issue to deal with, that was until some inconstancies came up in Rodriguez's story. Because of that I am ope Rodriguez ning an investigation to see how far the steroid problems goes on Scout's team and whether rodriguez is telling the truth on whether he has stopped using steroids.
 :p

Disappointed that this announcement has come out. I've issued steroids to ALL my players, ARod is the only one that TOOK them. Those were expensive, you bastards!

With the Admission by Scout, the Commissioner is now trying to determine what punishment to hand out. That could go as far as stripping scout of his championship trophy from last year.

how about I just win again this year, and then we take a picture with me holding my two 1st place trophies, and then we get one with you holding my trophies, and your "participant" ribbon?

But you miss the fact that you might loose that first trophy after the committee gets through deciding on the punishment after you admitted to providing steroids to your players. Which is against league rules.

I assume you've forgotten that Brian Roberts has already been caught using, and admitted to it? Gonna take both of your "participant" ribbons away, Sportzkid :p

Anyway, still need 2 more folks for the yearly league, send me a PM if you want in, or know someone that does...

Man Scout! After your trade goes through, you'll have a murderers row of batters: ARod, HanRam, Sizemore, Kinsler AND Howard!

That'll make beating you even more satisfying (if not impossible)...

You forgot McLouth as my likely 6th keeper, he's projecting as another 25-25 guy with good numbers :)

But yeah, I had a good 1st draft, and made sure to target the 5 tool guys, and tried to stay away from anyone old if I could manage it. A-Rod, Hanley, and Sizemore are the tools I plan to bludgeon you guys with for years, and then it leaves me 3 spots to move around with trades, good pickups, etc. If it makes you feel better, I'm beatable in the pitching department at the moment ;)

Keep your eye out, though, as I'm toying with one more blockbuster trade before we draft, if I can pull it off. Happy with Howard if I keep him, but there's a chance he could be a sign-and-trade candidate. If anyone has a better 1B for me that could be bought for Howard plus one of my spare parts (Victor Martinez or Liriano would seem to be the obvious targets), don't be shy, let me know. Big trades are where the fun is :)

The way I see it, Scout got the better end of the deal in that trade. Unless he's hit by a lot of injuries, I'm thinking he's definitely the favorite to win it all this year.

I certainly hope so. On the other hand, 2 of my 6 keepers from last year turned in complete duds, so you never know. And a lot of it is really how the draft goes, and dumb luck pickups in-season. I've certainly got a pretty strong core, though. Coaster's team is plenty strong, though, and my buddy Fowler actually is going to have a strong 6 keepers going into this draft, so who knows?

As for the last trade, he didn't do so bad. I didn't have room to keep Bruce, but he's going to be a stud, and Beckett carried me on his own in '07. With Votto waiting to fill the hole for him at 1B, he's not hurting there, while filling in the other spots some more.

I looked at several different sources researching both Bruce and Beckett. Beckett's a little iffy on the health issue, however, even with all of his injuries last year, he still posted 12 wins and a K an inning. He's a bit of a risk, but everything I've seen portrays last year as a fluke and that he'll return to being a top 5 p-itcher.

Bruce is projected to be a 30 home run man with a .280 average this year. At 22.

In the meantime, I've still got Joey Votto to plug the hole at first and Adam Dunn providing power at the plate. Votto did well in his rookie season last year, and should do even better this year. Dunn is consistent in his power numbers, even if he does swing at a lot of stuff he should not.

So, while it may only be a wash this year, I believe that I've received the better end of this deal in the long run.

That was part of the idea, gotta give value to get value, and all that. And since I only had one keeper spot for those two guys, plus Victor martinez, to share, I'm better off with one big guy rather than 2, even if the two add up to something better.

And if I can add Howard to another piece and flip him for something even BETTER, than I'm golden :)

^I don't know. I think I'm staying as far away from Howard this year as I can. While he has a good BA and hits home runs, he's like the king of strikeouts and how many weeks did he hurt me last season. Signing that 3 year contract might be an improvement, but If I am remembering he's always had a strikeout problem. Because of that, I don't think you can get anything better.

Of course, in a 5x5 league, strikeouts aren't worth anything, so no harm done. His .250 average isn't exactly awe-inspiring, but he's going to either lead the league or be close in HR, RBI, and Runs, so is a monster in those three categories for me. Certainly not a SB threat, and I can cover his average easily enough if he wins me the first 3 categories.

He's not a 5-tool guy by any stretch, but since we're not counting Ks as a bad thing, well, no harm no foul. And he's been consistent in the categories I need him to help with...

Still need 2 players for the yearly league. Come on, who's up for it? Failing that, anyone already playing that knows a buddy that wants a spot? Gotta fill this up, playing with 10 is kinda lame, you can have undrafted all-stars that way...

Eh, I don't love it, obviously, but I can absorb it with little problem. Howard's power added to my lineup ought to more than cover it. I'll just need to draft another 3B to cover until mid-summer.

Still need 2 players for the yearly league, if anyone's man enough to stop talking about sports and back it up with action :techman:

For anyone that missed it, today's the last day for selecting keepers in the Keeper League. Anyone without a K next to their name is going back in the pool, so don't forget to check one last time before this afternoon's deadline...

And still need two players for the yearly league, if anyone is up for it, or knows someone that might. Otherwise, we'll either have to play with 10 people, or cancel it. :(
