Night Court revival

I didn't expect to see Roz again so soon but I was laughing every second she was on screen. The whole episode was a lot of fun and I loved the callbacks to the original series. Should've seen the cliffhanger twist coming but I was too busy just enjoying all of the humor (and Abby being ridiculously adorable). Can't believe this is the season finale already. I need more now!

Also, I just realized I never commented on last week's episode: Also a lot of fun but I especially loved it because of Dave Foley. After seeing him for a whole season of Fargo in a (mostly) dramatic role, it was great to see him back to his normal absurd self.

Damnit, now I want a NewsRadio return but that can never work. No Phil Hartman, Joe Rogan is human scum, and Andy Dick is still Andy Dick. I'll settle for the Adventures of Dave, Lisa, and Jimmy.

It was so nice seeing them talk about Christine! And more Roz is Good too.
AHA! I wondered why she looked so familiar! And I think they're just screwing with us - I doubt they'd really make Jake be Dan's son.
Also, Olivia in that dress! Oh my!
Dan had a son that turned out not to be his son in the OS (S4E19 Paternity - Quote from Dan: "Sometimes Tough Breaks turn out to be Lucky Breaks and what starts out as the Worst Day of your life can turn out to be the Best Day in your life". Best Day = Best Dan?). Would they go there again, or is having an actual son, who is also super nice, part of his redemption arc? Tune in next season to find out!!!
I think Olivia in the green dress in The Wheelers Of Fortune was the best.

I didn't realize we were at the finale already, but I guess that would explain why there's no new episode this week.

The first few jokes were unfunny, but it picked up once the orphans appeared and was pretty good overall. Lots of big developments, revelations, and callbacks.

It's a mini John Larroquette Show reunion!

Dang, I didn't recognize Gigi Rice. I knew I'd seen her somewhere.

Julia Duffy is TINY.

Oh, is that who that was? Yeah, I'd been noticing all episode how they cut off most of the boyfriend's head when the camera was on Rauch, and how they twice did the gag of her lurking unseen behind a much bigger person, and then this woman comes along who's even smaller. I thought for a moment that the revelation was going to be that she was actually Abby's mother.

Speaking of jokes, I realized in the courtroom scenes, now that I stopped to think about it, that they were very clearly and blatantly using a laugh track. I guess maybe this show doesn't use a live audience after all.

I'm surprised no one recognized Julia Duffy. I immediately knew who she was based on the voice.
I know who she is, but I'm not sure I watched many shows she was on. I love Bob Newhart, but that show was probably on at some point I wasn't watching a lot of TV for whatever reason. Most likely I caught her on a few episodes of Designing Women, as I watched that in reruns here and there.

I haven't seen this yet, but I loved the original show when I was a kid - my Grandma and I would watch it all the time. I read recently that when the new show started filming, John Larroquette was very sad, because most of his friends had passed away. So it took some time, for him to find joy in his character again.

I would say 2nd season definitely feels like a really worthy successor to the 1st generation

Yes. I thought the first season was hit or miss that got better as it went along. This was a strong second season. I would say there was only one episode I didn't care for.

Hm. I felt this season was weaker than the first. There were more episodes I found unamusing. Although Wyatt is definitely a great improvement over Neil.

Is it too late to set up a survey to see if most of us disagree with your assessment?
I agree with his assessment. Neil was kinda one-note and sorta boring. Wyatt is an improvement, though I wouldn't have minded if they kept Flobert as the clerk. Dan, Gurgs and Flobert are my top-3 favorites.

To recap: The show embraced more of the insanity of the original in Night Court. We got Wyatt. We got sprinkles of Flobert. We got Wyatt. (Sorry, Niel.) And they figured out how to play to Olivia's strengths. I'd probably call her most improved but we have David Crane on Frasier to contend with. OTOH she went from "Why is she here" to probably my favorite character. David started out lower but didn't leap to the same height or at least not for as long. OK, Olivia.

Season 2 for the WIN!

Hmm, I see what you're all saying. I agree, the characters improved in season 2. I just felt that more of the episode plots and jokes fell flat for me.
