Night Court revival

Loved "Wheelers of Fortune."
So say we all!

"Nothing can ruin this day" .. "Mister Fielding, we meet again". Poor Dan

That...was...a...riot. Even the psychic stuff was classic NC. Poor "red" Wyatt.

Kate Micucci fit perfectly as Carol Anne and they decided not to even delve into why she wasn't seen in the 2nd & 3rd appearances. Brent and Annie slipped right back into their roles.

Well, I lived long enough to see my Cubs win the World Series and the Wheeler's return.

Kate is most definitely a "perfect" daughter, acting & looking like her parents. Veyr well cast

That was the first time I watched an episode of the revival in real time. It didn't disappoint. The last bit with Abby and Dan in her office talking about Harry brought a tear to my eye. Dan, for all his gruff exterior, clearly misses Harry as much as Abby, probably more so, now that he and Roz are the only two of the classic cast left.
I am loving the Grumpy Uncle dynamic they have -- definitely gives us enough of the feels without going over board.

If Night Court is back, it seems like the Wheelers will be back as well

I loved Dan referencing the sentient ventriloquist dummy episode of the original.

I caught that reference. When 'Catchy TV' did a weekend marathon of Night Court episodes following Richard Moll's passing, that was one they showed.

Edit to add.

Do you think John Laroquette would allow his name to be submitted for an Emmy nomination?

I know he withdrew his name from consideration after he won four consecutive Emmy's in the eighties.

I'd love to see Bumper Robinson come back as Leon. He's sorta kinda Abbie's sorta foster half-brother, sorta kinda.
Leon having been the one taking care of Buddy would be a great way to go. I'm still really hoping for a Buddy appearance.

I'm still seeing the one thing that has bothered me since the show came back. It's the editing. Like when Gurgs was telling Olivia about her curse, Olivia's arm was on the table, but then they switched cameras and Olivia wasn't touching the table. It's one small scene, but it happens a lot. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the show, but I notice these kinds of things.

Last night was another really good episode. I thought there might be a letdown after the Wheeler's, but not so much.

We got a lot more Kenny than we usually do. Will he be the next Phil? Tune in next week to find out!

Wait a moment. That fellow isn't ENGLISH. Neither is THAT one! (Surely I'm not the only one who was waiting for Taika Waititi to show up?)

"Yadda yadda indeed, Sir!" I can only hope that catches on, but it does seem unlikely.

The Wheeler episode was a good one. It wasn't as much about the Wheelers as I expected, but the plot about Abby trying to connect with Harry was touching. It's appropriate to use the return of classic characters as a catalyst for that story. Although they kind of exaggerated the Wheelers' bad luck even more than the original did.

They didn't do the things I was hoping for, like a belated explanation for why the Wheelers abruptly disappeared after buying the newsstand, or a TNG in-joke. (They could've done both at once by having Bob say they were abducted by aliens.)

Something I'm not clear on: Did they use split-screen and/or other VFX so that Lacretta could play both Gurgs and "Fergs"? Or did they find a Lacretta lookalike?

That did seem more likely. Especially since VFX technology has greatly improved since "The Enemy Within" and "What Are Little Girls Made Of."

Anybody know whether Night Court is shot multi-camera in front of an audience, or single-camera with a laugh track?

Anybody know whether Night Court is shot multi-camera in front of an audience, or single-camera with a laugh track?

Probably the former, but multi-camera sitcoms typically record two entire run-throughs, one with an audience and one without, so they can cut together the best bits from both, adding laugh tracks to the latter as necessary. Any VFX, stunts, or similar content would probably be covered in the non-audience recording. I'm sure both versions of Night Court have always done it that way.

They could do it like Red Dwarf does -- shoot the scenes with FX first, then play them on a screen for the audience to record their reactions.
