Talk about apples and oranges...That was five years ago. Things move fast.
I don't really see where they need a Star Trek, or Star Wars, they're doing fine with things like The Boys, Rings of Power, Vox Machina, ect.![]()
Prime Video Is Cancelling The Sci-Fi Series That Should Have Been Its Answer To Star Trek
Boldly going backwards.screenrant.com
If Amazon were in charge, the gate concept would be dropped in favor of focusing on a starship, a captain, and a crew, similar to SGU and nearly every Star Trek series.
Still, the cancellation of this series is disappointing.
Amazon currently has no franchise that can serve as a direct answer to Paramount's Star Trek or Disney's Star Wars television productions. Hopefully, the RoboCop project will not suffer the same fate and get canceled. If live-action productions are not planned, animated series and films for both franchises would be a welcome alternative.
Exactly so.I don't really see where they need a Star Trek, or Star Wars, they're doing fine with things like The Boys, Rings of Power, Vox Machina, ect.
It may seem bad just because they're not filming any live action Stargate, Star Trek or Doctor Who, the Orville's been on pause for years, Star Wars has moved back to movies, and there's not much other space opera on the horizon, but... uh... they're still making Ahsoka I think! So there's that. Now cancel that probably-never-coming-anyway forth season of Orville too. Just kill it all the fuck to death.
No more space adventures for anybody.
Stargate is a brand that's been dormant for years, so what you just said doesn't really apply to it. Many fans are craving Stargate content, and Amazon still wants to do something with it. I think they'll either do something less canon-bound, like new Star Trek TV series's, or a complete reboot. Or, if they don't want to spend money, they could continue it as an animation. Also, I don't think Stargate would be very profitable as a game in terms of sales. At the very least, The Orville ended with a fantastic finale and it's last season having pretty well wrapped up a lot of the ongoing plot threads. If the show ever comes back I'll be happy to watch, but at this point I'm satisfied with what we got.
At this point I don't want any more Stargate. It's mythos was convoluted as hell by the end of the last previous spinoff which itself was a seemingly half-hearted attempt to capitalize on the popularity of another show, and the basic premise of the franchise will defy suspension of disbelief for a lot of people in 2026.
I think (hope?) that we're finally starting to see a backlash to the endless parade of questionable "legacy" sequels/prequels; younger folks don't care about these brands and don't have the disposable income to spend on them the way existing older fans do, so those fanbases will only shrink with time.
I don't know what the future truly holds for Stargate but I don't foresee any major investments, maybe they'll put out video games like they're doing with Star Trek currently.
People tend to conflate this kind of statement with, "There's a demonstrated market that justifies the risk of investment in expensive new content." The one doesn't follow from the other. Many fans are craving Stargate content...
I guess you haven't been paying attention to Star Trek fandom Trends then, because after every single streaming cancellation ( Prodigy, the Picard followup Legacy, the SNW pitch for Kirk Year One, Etc) fans did try to make Paramount aware that they were unhappy and wanted the canceled series to continue or these newly pitched projects to be made.I don't think there's a huge demand for new Stargate stuff, so I think whatever project Amazon goes with will be a relatively lower budget effort. I think being dormant for years doesn't take away from the feeling of fatigue that's been building after a decade of Star Trek, Star Wars, et al; that at best vary wildly in quality, doing a Stargate legacy sequel show that's heavy on fanservice *now* could come across as trend chasing, and so on.
Also, just because there *are* existing fans doesn't mean they're super interested in more new material. People went to bat for The Expanse when it got canceled by SyFy, but I don't hear about anybody mobilizing to get new Star Trek shows renewed. I guess it remains to be seen if Stargate fans are more enthusiastic.

We do have a new season of Futurama coming up sometime in the next few months. It may seem bad just because they're not filming any live action Stargate, Star Trek or Doctor Who, the Orville's been on pause for years, Star Wars has moved back to movies, and there's not much other space opera on the horizon, but... uh... they're still making Ahsoka I think! So there's that.
These days there was no real chance of succeeding

These days there was no real chance of succeeding; but the fandom attempted it anyway.
Also the smw producers have stated that the fan response to Star Trek Discovery season 2 with Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, which had fans requesting a Captai Pike series did make it easier for them to get Paramount execs to Green Light Strange New Worlds.

Yeah I remember that campaign. Honestly, it seems about as popular as the various attempts to get SNW greenlit.I've been around a bit, and current efforts by the Trek fandom pale in comparison even to the Save Enterprise stuff back in 05...

Eh, I love Stargate, and I mean love. I had a platonic man-crush on O'Neill and Teal'c in my early twenties to the point that many of their mannerisms I still emulate today. Hell, I've emulated Rodney McKay just enough to know that doing so is a good way to get punched. I will be the first in line to watch any new Stargate content should it be available. Many fans are craving Stargate content
SEAL Team on an alien planet.I'm curious what a full reboot would be like. Going back to a bunch of guys going through the gate getting into trouble every week without fleets of giant spaceships to bail them out if the gate goes wrong or all the magic tech they've accumulated over the years.
