How bad is Andromeda?

Really not liking "Dance of the Mayflies". It hinges of Tyr not suggesting the SUPER OBVIOUS:

"Why don't we just shoot their legs off or cut them off? I have knives. And swords..."

The season two episode "The Fair Unknown" is a mystery episode that offers way more unanswered mystery than answers and falls flat for me.

Al,so, WHERE did that Nova bomb come from? So, they had many, used them all, then got another kept it, then used it, so the Andromeda should be down to zero Nova bombs, but yet ... it's like a Voyager photon torpedo -- just comes out of thing air after exhausting the supply.

EDIT:
And NOW, suddenly, without explanation, the Andromeda has outside cameras for the season two finale.

I think Andromeda can build more Nova Bombs. I think she's always had the cameras outside..

They established that Harper built Ronnie's body but later in the series they act like she's always had a physical body and ignore or never mention that he created it

Finished season two.

The synth music has gotten better, but really, a different composer should have been hired.
Also, I am confused about season two's new theme music. The theme music to season one was this awful pile of synth nothing, but the end credits says "March of the High Guard" composed by Alex Lifeson of Rush. The opening theme is clearly NOT a march, leading me to believe the end credits -- the nine-note march theme, was the aforementioned theme. however, the new season two theme is that same nine-note theme, but now credited to the show's composer.

A lot of set up this season, clearly they had ideas for season three. Sad to know in advance that was pissed away.

Kind of got predictable a little annoying so many episodes began with an in-progressive fight. Seems like the network maybe wanted less intellectual, more action to draw people in.

A number of continuity errors in regards to the technology.

Some of the early episodes were especially good, especially in the callbacks and setting up a new "game"...

How many times does Trance change her hairstyle? If you said as many times as Captain Janeway in one early season, you'd be right! And they all suck.
Speaking of Trance, two seasons of her and what do we now know about her? Next to nothing. That old game of not answering and letting her not answer, grows thin, especially now that she's not the innocent purple space pixy with sparkly things in her hair.

I miss ReveBem. His contributions on counseling the crew, were especially good. And he's not just not there, I don't even recall any flashbacks that had him.

I'm disappointed Christopher Judge won't be back as the Avatar for the other Commonwealth ship.
Speaking of said ship, the cheapness of the show -- that's the strange alien vessel Hunt had to destroy not too long ago. How did they think we would not remember that? They didn't even re-paint it or change anything at all.

And in the above regards, it's pretty tiring that by around 2002, they are re-using so many special effects shots over and over and over again without changing them.

Heading off to season three next week, with the recommended episodes. If anybody can suggest any others not recommended in the below link, let me know.

EDIT:
Multiple episodes have established the Andromeda has no cameras and they can't see anything coming as a result if sensors are offline or disrupted. Otherwise, the entire episode D Minus Zero" would never have happened the way it did.

I'm almost done with a binge of season 1 of B5. That show reuses a lot of special effects over and over again. The launch sequence is always the same. The weapons coming up on B5 is always the same. Exterior shots are reused a lot. This might have come down to budget and available tech at the time.

It's why story matters more during this period of time since the special effects were not quite there yet at current budgets. This is right before tech got good enough to give us good Marvel films.

IKR so many problems could be solved by cutting off the enemies legs

I'm rereading Wrinkle in Time because of Stranger Things so it was on my mind. It's possible though that Wolfe was inspired by the book.
This is how how my TBR blows up on me. Other books are referenced in books I'm reading, or they're referenced in films/shows that I watch. And then I end up watching them.

I thought it was established in episode 2 that he got the plans to build Rommie's android form from the Commonwealth station they visit - the stuff about "ship made flesh" - when they access the Commonwealth archives.

Could be wrong though

I think so, yes. The technology to make an android avatar was around in the Commonwealth, but Andromeda Ascendant simply hadn't availed herself of it. I think Harper basically just modified one of her "Maria" drones to look like her holographic avatar.

Lord.

Since season two ended on a cliffhanger of sorts, I had to watch the first episode to see what happened.

The season three opener is off, rather painful, shallow, and such a waste.

And I hate the sudden complete change of the way slipstream vortexs look.

Yeah slipstream fell to budget cuts haha......In season 1 they had the chair mounted on gimbals and it could move and all but even that got the chop

I did have a certain amount of respect for how in universe they wrote off the bridge for half the season (presumably due to overruns and cash shortages meaning it wasn't ready for the start of the season)

Think for me the nadir of Andromeda's CGI was "The Twins" (which looked like the Wolverine unit from C&C Tiberian Sun) in S2 finale and then in the S3 episode where Tyr and Dylan become regents to the future king

I don't remember the Wolverine unit

I am going to finish season three, as a result of skipping many episodes, tomorrow. I did also include Rev's return, just to know what happened. If there anything worth watching season four and five wise or is it just shit?

It becomes more shit as time goes on. Season 5 is the worst but I'm a completionist so stuck it out till the end

I didn't realize until recently just how much the Berman era Trek shows reused their ship models, matte paintings, and effects shots. There were a couple of ships that they really used a ton for a whole bunch of different alien ships. Every time I see one of them again, I just tell myself maybe they didn't build the people flying them just got them from the same manufacturer. And the matte paintings were often tweaked a little bit so they weren't always identical.
And there was one shot of a Klingon Bird of Prey exploding, I think it was from either The Search for Spock or The Undiscovered Country, that they reused pretty much any time a Bird of Prey was destroyed from that point on.
