I'm not protesting. I'm not saying they have to change or that this isnt Trek or any of that crap just that I would like to be a more team based rather than a 1 person show. I'll give season 3 a go just like 1 and 2 and will stop if I don't like it

You must not like any of the Star Trek series because none of them are "team-based".
If you want a space-based ensemble series, go watch something like Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica (RDM), or The Expanse, because Trek just isn't that kind of show and never has been.
I think he means ensemble. But I guess one could argue away teams as teams. Most Trek shows have been ensemble. TOS was mostly about the big 3 and Enterprise was mostly Archer,T'Pol and Trip but Discovery is the only one that doesn't really have anything like even a big 3. It's Burnham. secondary role characters their to service Burnham. The comic relief friend,The friend from your past, romantic partner, the gay couple you know who completes your group and then this seasons big guest stars and roving bad guy who comes in shakes things up and leaves. This seasons bad guy. Then everyone else is their to push buttons. Maybe this would even work better if they had more episodes. Those filler episodes people always complain about are often good ways to add more character oriented stuff to a show so everything doesn't seem so plot connected which is another issue. No poker or hangout stuff for the most part. Not characters just dealing with ordinay life issues. It always plot focused at the expense of character moments.

Star Trek has never been an "ensemble show", although different parts of the franchise have given their "secondary characters" varying degrees of focus and made it feel like you were watching an ensemble piece, even though you weren't.
I don't know. I think DS9 was a pure ensemble. Sometimes even Sisko didn't have much to do in episodes. On TNG Picard and Data were the clear leads but I think everyone was pretty well used though I got to admit it's handy when you got 26 episodes to work with. Voyager started off as a ensemble but eventually became about Janeway,EMH and Seven.

If you boil every Trek series down to its absolute essences, they're all focused on either a single character or specific set of characters.
DS9 had been my favorite Trek series up until the premiere of Discovery, and it was very much the "Benjamin Sisko Show" even when episodes of the series seemed to veer away from focusing directly on him, as the entirety of the show's storyline and premise ended up revolving around him and his destiny as the Emissary of the Prophets.
VGR comes the closest to being seen as an "ensemble series" in the beginning, but given where the series ends up, I'd make the argument that the idea of it being an ensemble series was just an illusion.
Star Trek just isn't an ensemble franchise if you take a very hard look at each series and what it offers.
I'm not interested one iota in the concept/premise of this season at all.
But I do like Burnham's new look (especially the hair!), and it's nice to see strange, new worlds again.
The twist is that barren hostile world is what Earth looks like in the future! Technically speaking something happening to Earth is something sort of established. I have been watching Enterprise lately and I just watched "Cold Front" were we first meet Daniels. He talks about Earth and when Trip says it's nice to know Earth is around Daniels says something like "Depends on what you call Earth" or something cryptic like that. Only question now I suppose is to find out why Daniel and these time cops or Braxton and and Starfleet Tmeships failed to protect the Federation from tampering unless of course they can see the future even 500 years lets say after what we see in season 3 and a brand new Federation is up and going strong meaning what is happening was always meant to happen. It does sort of remind me of what Bashir and his genetically engineered friends projected if the Federation surrendered to the Dominion. Eventually a resitance would form on earth creating a even stronger Federation lasting thousands of years.

In many of those cases, particularly with Stargate and The X-Files it was because the leads wanted to leave, and it was several years into the show (eight years of Stargate, seven of X-Files).
Most Star Treks have only focused on two or three characters with everyone else in the cast being mostly superfluous. The only difference with Disco is that the lead isn't the ship's commanding officer.
Utter bull. All the 90s trek had multiple episodes each main character and even some Side ones
DS9 did that. TNG only really focused on Picard and Data, while Voyager was mostly centred around Janeway, Seven of Nine and the Doctor.
We have loads of Worf episodes, LaForge gets in all sorts of mishaps on his many episodes, we get Wesley episodes sadly and multiple for Riker and Troi too. Only the TNG movies narrowed it into Picard and Data.
And I remember loads of stuff about Torres, Paris and again sadly Kim and especially get alot of Tuvok
The other characters in the cast usually only got a few episodes a year to themselves, usually with one of the main focus characters also having a prominent role in those episodes. Seriously, name a TNG episode which doesn't have Picard or Data in a prominent role, or a Voyager episode which doesn't feature Janeway, Seven or the Doctor prominently.

People can try to pull out all the rationalization they want to try and demonstrate otherwise, but Star Trek is not, has not been, and will most likely never be an "ensemble" franchise.
